Can we plump for 20.30, just so AM and FB can have half a chance of eating with us?

Since you guys seem to know quite a bit about Indian restaurants in Munich: which, according to you, are the best?? I´ve tried several but wasn´t really overly impressed with any one of them - think the best was the one at Stiglmaierplatz (Maharani??).
But haven´t tried them all, so if you have suggestions, they are more than welcome!!
Cheers Katrin

Ooh, there have been several threads on this topic (and lots of opinions!), so you'd probably be best off doing a search on "Indian restaurants."

Munich restaurants are not up to Birmingham standards, so it is a case of the best of a mediocre bumch with a few really bad ones. most serve the same basic dishes with a very homogenous sauce which tend sto be fairly bland and lacking in all the typical spices. if you order hot and you want hot by an english standard, you really have to emphasise this. but you will not get a dish cooked properly hot, they will just add extra chilis, so it is not quite the same.
best so far imvho is "Neu Delhi" on Ismaningerstrasse near Max-Weber-Platz. The owner is fantastic and will also create a dish for you based on your description. Sitar in
Lehel is also quite good.
AVOID KASHMIR on Pariserplatz.

Well, you could check out
the review of Indian restaurantsI think Radha also deserves two big thumbs, and I'm glad Rama already has two thumbs

There are plenty of decent indians around (Ganga is also excellent), though - it depends on which part of town you are in.
take into consideration: a restaurant can be good for a group of five and terrible when you storm the place with 20. Read the
entire curry night chat archive for exhaustive reviews.

Topsy, seeing as 2.2. will be in our neck of the woods and Rama has been recent, do you think that it should be Taj Mahal or Marharaja?

True but normally curry nights are 7-12 people. Last week was a huge exception to the norm but very fun.
FYI FB's name is spelled Nicolas, but I thought we used code names on the board
I'll be at this week's
curry night.

Jan 10 2005, 11:14 am
We do, but FB isn't on the board...
Edit: oh and anyone intending to come could actually sign up. So far only two of us have done so.

is 2.2. in Neuhausen?
that's good, isn't it?
don't mind where it is, really.
It looks like I won't be able to make it on 26th Jan to Ismaning, which is a shame, cos I really wanted to go out there

Topsy, it is always good in our neck of the woods! Is satman back yet?
Owain Glyndwr
Jan 10 2005, 1:59 pm
so do you guys have a favourite indian restaurant in Neushausen. I heard there was a good one not all that far from Nymphenburgerstrasse, can't remember which Platz exactly, though.
Topsy
Jan 10 2005, 2:06 pm
I think Satman is due back pretty soon, probably back already, I think...
We already did Rama and Radha ('cept I wasn't here for the Radha one

Maybe Maharaja on Blutenburgstr.?

Jan 10 2005, 2:07 pm
Maharaja was reall good, hmmm... nice service, too.

Jan 10 2005, 2:09 pm
A lot of my friends (non-TT) rave about the service in there as well.
Seems like a good place, no?
I haven't been for about 18 months, though, personally.

how do you get the image to be displayed on the
reservation page ? 8 people currently signed up .

You'll have to ask the mods how they set it up but if you type in "no smoking" it just appears. Might be some antismoking voodoo.
Owain Glyndwr
Jan 11 2005, 9:48 am
just type in no-smoking in the comments and it appears automatically. just as a reminder, this comment is just a wish and not a vote to see whether the
curry night is smoking or non-smoking. maybe, however, smokers will take account of the numbers of non-smokers but that is up to them.
Yeti
Jan 11 2005, 9:57 am
Theres no smoke without fire so there had better be some fire in my curry at the Sitar, but you all seem to recommend it. I'm starting to get hungry already.
Owain Glyndwr
Jan 11 2005, 11:14 am
Sitar is a reasonable place and will pepp up your curry when asked. They also do an excellent Chili Nan!

Jan 12 2005, 10:19 am
Just a reminder, if there's anyone else who's planning on coming please rsvp so that we can give the restaurant an accurate number. We've been kind of bad about having a lot more or a lot less than we told the place recently. It makes it easier on everyone if we have a somewhat accurate idea. (leads to less fighting and being forced to ban restaurants

It was great...
They made a Balti type offering for OG and myself, and then low and behold on the way back home I cop-off with a polish lass from the next village to me.. all in all, a great night...
Winegirl was looking cute as ever and Bridgetjones... too cute for me

I must say that was the best curry I have had in a long time. What the curry lacked in strength (vindaloo) it more than made up for it in taste! I'll surely be going back there again! I'll just ensure they make it hotter next time!
Great company as ever; will have to agree with you there Grinner!
I thought you said this woman was Greek, or did you think she was Greek?

Excellent chilli chicken which was actually hot and will stay with me forever (or a day at least but that is probably more information than most people need) Very good service. Thanks to Jeeves for doing the reservations. Had to go home early but still a very enjoyable night.

Whatever I had, green chilli and spinach (and chicken), was rather nice. Something called Murghai Mugli or something like that. The people at the Sitar were very friendly but they didn't offer schnapps at the end of it all. Still €18 for a lovely meal and 2 beers was well worth it.
Owain Glyndwr
Jan 13 2005, 9:41 am
Last night's curry was indeed the best curry i have had in Munich yet. Although not quite like an authentic Balti, it was a damn good try based of the little description i gave. And it was EXTREMELY tasty, a fantastic melange of flavours in a thick sauce served in a sizzling Karahi.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Grinner christened the new dish the "Toytown Balti" so if you go into the Sitar and ask for a "Toytown Balti" you will be able to try this delicious creation.
I didn't cop-off with any polish lasses (or any of any other nationality) on my way home, so the curry remains the highlight of my evening.

Jan 13 2005, 9:51 am
@OG
We'll have to find out what secret ingredient Grinner got in his Balti...
Or maybe it was just his natural charm and wit, not to mention the colour coordinated shoes.

@false - Murghai Mugli - Isn't that with mint and not green chili? There's a dish at Rama with a similar name (and mint) that's just amazing. Mmm.
Just out of curiosity, is AM going to curry night anymore or has his baby been taken away from him completely? I wasn't really following the whole
curry night issue awhile back, so whatever happened? I thought there was going to be two curry nights - one at Sitar and one at various places. Wha?

Jan 13 2005, 10:48 am
thanks guys...must have been my straight from work to the gym to
curry night look
curry was really good last night. It was not as hot as I'd wanted (asked for very hot, got mild aka. german hot) but unlike last weeks (which was just bland) it was really flavorful. So that made up for the heat. The spoons of the hot orange sauce I added helped too.
@OG, you got schapps?! I was hoping for the mango shots but waited as long as I could then had to get home.
Did the others get them after I left?
Owain Glyndwr
Jan 13 2005, 10:55 am
i was handed it as i went round the corner to complement the chef and pay.
