I'm starting a casual writing group in Berlin to meet in cafes, bars, wherever a host can be found, etc. once a week, or maybe once every two weeks, depending on interest.
My ideal writing group is: friendly, engaged, fun, diverse, supportive.
I'm not particularly interested in writing with: "authors" who know everything, people who dominate conversations or meetings, those who get off on tearing apart others' work, or anyone who is out to prove something.
It would be great to: do quick timed writing sessions, bring in pieces for advice/critique exchange, talk about writing, reading, books, etc.
And just to be clear: You don't have to be (or have been) a creative writing, English, or journalism student to enjoy a writing group. Anyone who likes to move a pen across paper is qualified.
Let me know and we'll figure out times, places, etc.
PS. I was mainly thinking about a group in English, but if anyone has other suggestions, why not. Also, non-native English speakers are welcome!

You can always use our cafe (
Sala del Popolo in Prenzlauer Berg) for your meeting. Just let me know when you want to meet and I will reserve the room for you.

I e-mailed the original creator of this message to see if she is still interested. I'll let you know if she responds... I think we should definitely find a time to meetup-- my only concern is does anyone know how a writing group works? I have to admit, I've never even been to one, ha ha.

Hi everyone- awesome to see more interest in the last couple days, and timely, since I just got back to Berlin from 6 weeks abroad.
We met every Monday from March to June, for discussions, prompted writing exercises, etc.
Myself and a couple other attenders also started working on a magazine, so check this out and submit:
www.theextraroom.comPlease let me know so I can put you on the list, and say when you're available and what sort of interests you have in writing.
Talk to you soon, and plan to have a meeting sometime this week. Maybe even tomorrow (Monday)!

A creative writing group is forming for persons interested in writing short or long fiction, poetry, plays, biographies or narrative non-fiction. This will be a workshop format modeled after those in US universities. Each meeting we'll discuss a work-in-progress, trying to make it better and learn and be inspired in the process. Atmosphere is casual, friendly, supportive, with serious regard for the work. Participants may range from beginning to published writers. If you're interested in joining or would like more information, call, email, or grab me at one of
these boat parties. I'd like to start this in September.

I am interested in starting a writing group in Berlin for English speakers. The group would be free. It would be a way for us to do writing exercises, chat, and share tips about writing and life in Berlin. I would also like to start a National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) support group in time for the event on November 1st. This could either be part of the main writing group, or something separate. If you haven't heard of this, check it out at nanowrimo.org. We can discuss where we want to go with this group more at the first meeting.
I look forward to hearing from you if you are interested.

Does anyone know if there is a writing group for writers in English that meets regularly (by that I mean once a week/fortnight) in the city somewhere? And if so how does it work (structure, fees etc)?

ok, well the original thread was on a writing group that died. then, there is another group talked about here as well, and yes, the group is still around however no, it is not taking any more members. i had started the group, but left, although it is still going. If you are interested in writing groups, send me a PM and tell me what you are looking for, as I have been toying with starting another writing group. This group I left was my first writing group and while we had our successes i was not overly pleased with it, and it was not what i had envisioned. i'd love to meet some of you interested in writing period just to get to know some more writers, so like i said message me and we'll talk.

Hi, I'm part of the group that is still running. We are having a few people leaving soon, so are looking to open up to some new members. When CaliforniaGirl gets another group going, that could be great for finding one that fits well to you. Feel free to message me if you'd like more info for our particular group.

Hi,
I have recently moved to Berlin for 5 months and am looking to join an English-speaking writing group, preferably in the Prenzlauer Berg (or nearby) area. I write prose and poetry and have been a member of a number of groups back in Dublin in Ireland. I would be interested in either participating in free-writing or a show and critique type group. Actually, I'd be interested in anything really, as long it was supportive and sociable

Does anyone know of any groups out there?
Thanks!
