I would like a hot German boyfriend, and I'm sure many other chicks on this forum would like one too. The problem is, I haven't been able to find one. With the places I go to, i.e. bars, concerts, exhibitions, restaurants, grocery shopping, the U-Bahn, it seems I attract guys twice my age!
I'm into music, eating good food, watching films, going to football games, cooking, intellect, etc.. I would like to meet someone slightly older than me with similar interests. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well not me that is for certain. I have had a string of German boyfriends and have all been a disaster. Obviously I cannot generalise and say it was because they were German!
I just find the looking for a 'German' boyfriend title a bit silly. Yes nothing wrong with looking for a boyfriend but I never understood why women restrict themselves.
Saying that I have never actually looked for a boyfriend so never had any criteria. I just meet someone and it clicks. If it doesn't click am more than happy on my own

Good idea, Purple Muffin!
Except I go to a language school, not a uni. Do you know where I can place an ad? I placed one at my language school, but no one there is looking for an English-speaking partner; they're all looking for a German one.

Before using TT in a similar manner, at university I was in
AIESEC (
Global site). It was rather good for the, errr, social contacts *cough*.
Your local university campus probably has an AIESEC office, their international work placement student piss-ups are legendary and you don't need to join up to go.

New In Town I am sure you'll get plenty of replies. Or go to the university cafeteria anyway and put notices up there too.

If the dating scene in Berlin is anything like Munich, your 'boyfriend wanted' ads may follow a fairly predictable pattern.
Ad 1: Hot German boyfriend wanted
Ad 2: Hot German boyfriend wanted
Ad 3: Hot German boyfriend wanted
Ad 4: Someone please have sex with me

Feb 26 2007, 4:50 pm
Oh yeah? May I add that I'm actually celibate?

Ad 5: Someone please have sex with me be my frustrated partner
Just kidding, oomcha. Well, sort of kidding anyway.

Hang around Oranienburger Straße at night, you will get one there no bother.

To be honest then, you could try berghain on Saturday nights as the hottest of the hot German men are there. They all cluster in one corner of the club just waiting for you to pick them up. But then again, they might fall under the category GG mentions. Therefore just go to enjoy the music.

Oomcha -- I truly believe you should not restrict yourself to Germans, but I do understand that you want to improve your German and it sure does help to date a native. I do have a bunch of German friends here in their twenties...Some of them are single, so maybe I could introduce them to you...Not a blind date per se, but you could simply join when we guys go for drinks. Be ready to speak German though! Later.

I am beginning to see the desperation of your situation. I just googled hot+german+man+berlin and got nothing.
I would suggest following:
- take up sports, you meet lots of men who are still young enough to move without any outside help or support
- or try tandem. Yeah. Stupid me, I always thought it was for learning and practising languages
- or internet dating. Worked for all my friends who weren't married by 30
Cheers and remember to post a pic of the hot guy when you get lucky.

Have you thought about looking for guys at church? Cause in my experiance they are the only ones that might maybe deal with the whole no sex thing.
oomcha
Feb 26 2007, 8:12 pm
Cute church boys?! It would be pretty awkward for me to go to a church and sing hymns and things because I'm an atheist.
And trust me, I know what I'm talking about because I went to two all girls religious schools.
But it's a definite good suggestion for the chicky babes on this forum who are religious.

It's not easy. Be bold. German guys generally expect you to put in more effort than English speaking guys do. Approach them first, and don't expenct them to buy you drinks or dinner, because generally they wont, though I've been pleasantly surprised a number of times. When you snag one, don't take any of his shit. He'll respect you more if you speak your mind.

I would hang around the FU campus - maybe take a class or plot some lefty revolution.
Seems to me there is no real "dating" in Berlin - you become friends, hang out and then one thing leads to another. Start with friendship - see where that leads ya.

oomcha, how's your german? why don't you get a job...good way to meet german peeps. i wouldn't tell them right off the bat about the celibacy/not liking to drink thing though...people tend to frown on both of those things...hahaha

or try the
Eurpoa Centre Irish Bar, or the
Irish Harp (Adenauer Platz) at midnight Friday or Saturday any weekend , on average 20 lads to every woman !!!
Then again, on second thoughts dont be too sober yourself... !!!
Drink is indeed a wonderfull thing...well you know the rest...

Thanks for your suggestion. I might go there this weekend actually.
I've been to two Irish bars here so far. The first one is
The Old Emerald Isle and the other one is The
Oscar Wilde. I love the warm atmosphere and the delicious food at The Old Emerald Isle!
Check out this breakfast I had the other day:

Yeah, but if you go to Irish pubs most guys aren't German, from my experience (and I've been to almost all of them because I have a friend that LOVES English guys and that's where they seem to hang out.) They'll be English speaking, or tourists from elsewhere.
My best tip is to go to any bar with a German football match on. Seriously, LOTS of German studs!

Same here. Looking, hunting, searching for a "boyfriend" is more like hunting for ducks in the wilderness .
If you are a woman of beauty and grace, you'll meet guys anyway and it happens naturally.

I somewhat agree and disagree...sometimes you find stuff when you're not looking, but sometimes you're more aware of what you want and need when you're on the prowl and you get it.
Just my experience.
Pat Bateman
Mar 2 2007, 10:25 pm
One thing is for sure: if you do it like LiaB advocates, you wont get the full spectrum to choose from. Depending on what kind of man you need (which may not be the same as you're looking for

) that can be either a good or a bad thing. When in doubt you better stop the passive shit.
Thats especially true for better-then-average looking women btw.
VenusInFurs
Mar 3 2007, 11:53 am
True...guys often don't approach better-than-average looking women. I think they're afraid of them.
Pat Bateman
Mar 3 2007, 7:51 pm
'afraid of them' is not what i would call it. But we presume that the good looking women
1) are probably taken anyway.
2) get lots of unsolicited and often much annoying attention from guys with a superficial mindset, which a ) produces pretty solid instinctive defense to all sorts of flirting males and/or b ) made them become completely self-centered, vain+spoiled bitches

3) are too much work anyway when you actually get them, because you will always have to be better then the thousands she could have instead of you.
Actually i've been there, my ex used to be a model... Hate to say it but she's still one of the most attractive women i know. But that just wouldnt do it for me anymore.
Whatever, i guess i cannot really explain, but i dont think it is fear that has me thinking that next time i fall in love i want a not-too-attractive-in-a-general-way woman but prefer a ordinary looking nice girl that will blow me away with other qualities then her looks. Sadly, its much easier to recognise great looks

Oh dear Venus, be prepared for an onslaught of unsolicited pms now that you outed yourself as a model.

I agree with you though, both my best friends at school were models and they weren't vain and stupid and annoying and just wanted normal nice guys too.

I have met and befriended German men on both sides -- the just-want-to-play guys and the not-until-we-are-for-life types.
I understand the latter LESS, but that's just me.
In any case, I would never introduce my nice German guy friends to any woman who wouldn't want a good shagging.

hmm, i guess that explains why eastern europe is filled to the brim with nasty shaved head guys carrying their men's business purses, and why russian women outnumber them 15 to 1 at any moscow club- all the interesting and mysterious ones are here. btw, i think Bulgarians, Poles and Tajiks may be offended at their language being called "some dialect of Russian".
