Secrets to finding English-speaking work

Tips for job hunting in Munich

Ok I know this question pisses people off and I understand most people will have the opinion that I look for a job myself and not ask you to do it on my behalf!

This is true and I am not after you all getting me job leads and setting me up with interviews (although if you do I won’t complain), however the type of information that could help would be:

• Did you have the job you have now at home, and get transferred to Munich?
• Did you look and apply for jobs from home then move after you got the job?
• Did you all speak German before you moved?
• Anyone not speak a word of German but land on their feet and get a good job?
• Anyone look at making a job for them self, by starting a company etc?
• Do any of you have jobs where you don’t need to speak German? If so what do you do?
• Anyone know of any call centres, or department which only deal with England thus speaks English!
• Anyone move to Munich first then look for a job?
• Where did you look for jobs? Any secret hideaways I should be looking at?
• Did you look online, or in journals, Newspapers, etc.
• Anyone know of an all English-speaking job available where they work?

As I say I am not trying to get you to do the hard searching work for me however why re-invent the wheel? I would be grateful for any help and advice, and hope you don’t all think that this is one of them begging posts, that is asking for you to get me a job. Also I am not adverse to Germans in any way nor am I not willing to learn the language, however I want to live with my German girlfriend in Munich wub.gif, and I am slow at learning the language. However I know she won’t wait forever and I can’t live there without money! Catch 22! Don’t you just hate Catch 22’s?

Thanks in advance
Adam

One doesn't require the language knowledge in German research institutes. E.g. Max-Planck
DoubleVision
Okay, maybe I'll help you a bit with my info, the-daddy.
  • Did you have the job you have now at home, and get transferred to Munich? - No
  • Did you look and apply for jobs from home then move after you got the job? - No
  • Did you all speak German before you moved? - I didn't
  • Anyone not speak a word of German but land on their feet and get a good job? - Yes
  • Anyone look at making a job for them self, by starting a company etc? - No
  • Do any of you have jobs where you don’t need to speak German? If so what do you do? - My job requires me to speak German and English. The second part of your question is private wink.gif
  • Anyone know of any call centres, or department which only deal with England thus speaks English! - I can't help you there. The many call centers I know of here in Germany require you to speak German to your colleagues and supervisor. But there maybe some exceptions. (And no, my job is not in a call center)
  • Anyone move to Munich first then look for a job? - Yes
  • Where did you look for jobs? Any secret hideaways I should be looking at? - Word of mouth is good, and just send your resumé everywhere
  • Did you look online, or in journals, Newspapers, etc. - Everywhere
  • Anyone know of an all English-speaking job available where they work? - No, sorry
Hope that helps smile.gif
