er... would just like to alert "touch rugby" (not it's real name) players, that there's a tournament that weekend... it's not the day after, it's the day!
(both Sat and Sun as far as I know...)

maybee somebody who knows the details can post the specific time and data of the tournament? So we know if it would interfere with go-karing on, let's say, early Sunday evening.

Aug 10 2004, 10:32 am
Well its not a case of it interfering now. From watching what little of the sport as possible, I can see it is pretty tiring. Go Karting also takes it out of you, so I doubt the TR people will want to do both.
I guess it comes down to a choice TR or Karting.
So those TR people make your choice of which you would rather do.

I'm in, and Foxy is too...and if this IS going to interfere with the old Touch Rugby, could we not consider doing it on the Saturday (since both days are no go for the TR bods) - would be great to go out and get smashed afterwards to celebrate my victory, and not have to worry about work the next day.
And as for Jimbo Button??? No chance - Jimbo Senna please. Knock me off the track, and just like the most passionate racing driver ever, I'll punch your f*****g lights out

Jimbonator - dont be tempting fate now! I quite like you with a heart beat
Any medics amongst us who will be on hand to administer first aid??
@Foxy
Yes - Dr. Tif. In true Landan style will be there to kick the Tottenham scum in the head a few times to finish the job off

Tom's from Chertsey isn't he? I have to admit - the Nova SRi racing round there is pretty competitive, but I feel that my Essex boy XR2i experience will give me a good chance...
In all honesty though, I've not raced go-karts properly ever before, but hell, they have four wheels and a steering wheel - can't be that different from a Nissan, can they???
@Tif - I know, and that counts for a lot in karting mate, but not only that, I also have something known as 'skill', which will also help. Either way, I'm gonna kick your arse boy.

Aug 11 2004, 10:19 am
We'll see...do I take it that you have some experience of karting then? And just to check - is this one of those Le Mans style karting things where you actually have only four karts and teams of three or 4 that have to swap? Or is it all individual glory?
Tom17
Aug 11 2004, 10:27 am
yep, driven karts before. Lets just see how the race pans out

And dunno the format, i think its individual heats and then a final. No team stuff.
ahh.. here we go...
First a 8 lap Qualifying race to determine the start grid for the race and than a 22 lap race. After that there's a cermonial honnering of the numbers 1, 2 and 3 with Sekt
Tom...
p.s. yer, I was a boy racer round Staines (nothing in Chertsey really) as it happens hehe.. I was always in my Mini 850 though... and boy did I give it all it had
Jimbo
Aug 11 2004, 10:41 am
Mini 850? Practically a go-kart in itself really. As I said, I have no experience of karts, but I've driven some very powerful cars, sometimes very fast - whether that will help or not I have no idea - looking forward to it though - I've always wanted to race karts.

Jimbo, sorry mate I think we should stick to Sunday. Making this kind of track reservations is a little tricky since a considerable amount of money is involved and I don’t want to end up with some people trying to pull out after the reservation is made because we changed the date at the last moment.
but it's no problem for me if you want to throw a victory-party-in-advance on Saturday
Jimbo
Aug 11 2004, 11:25 am
Nah, Sunday's fine - I just may be nursing a hangover - I'll just drive through it.

Aug 11 2004, 2:34 pm
as for Rugby, here's the magic quote:
"On the Sunday, Deutschland Men play Scotland Men in three matches. Deutschland Ladies also play the Scots' Ladies in three matches. For players not involved in these matches, there will be the opportunity to play in two North v South games (i.e.
the best players from Bremen, Braunschweig, Berlin, Erfurt and Leipzig against the best from Frankfurt, München, Memmingen and Fürstenfeldbruck)."
well, it's obvious then isn't it, I'm going Karting!!!

Hey are we going to go for our own team styles?? We would have to watch the team tactics of Jimbo 'Senna' & Foxy 'Coulthard'
McClaren, Ferarri, Williams, BAR and so on
Just to make it a little more fun between us?
Perhaps even a small wager? - 5€ each and prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd??

Aug 11 2004, 3:34 pm
the idea was that everyone who pays in the tournement on saturday should play on sunday. here is what was planned
Germanv v Scotland mens (14 men needed)
Germany v Scotland ladies (14 women needed
South v North (28 people needed)
28+14+14 = 56 players in total which is virtually all players that play on saturday. If we have more than ca.60 players we can mix around the Soth v North so everyone gets a game or two.
However, it seems that the Scots may not be arriving in as many numbers as originally planned

, so all this theory goes out the window

.
My best guess at the moment is that we will be finished by 2-3pm on sunday leaving plenty of time to go carting in the evening if so desired.

Aug 11 2004, 3:36 pm
OK, so Uncle Rugby just told me that the tournament should be finished by 2pm on Sunday, so we'd be back in town by 4pm.
How about 5pm? Then we can go to GM's afterwards

The last time I did Karting I was absolutely shattered afterwards, my arms were like lead and I just wanted to sleep. Obviously I am not as fit as some of the TR people, but I imagine that after a day of TR most of you may not feel like racing round a track for a couple of hours.
I guess this is up to VDB, its his event. But trying to accomodate another event based on people who might or might not be able to make it is a bad idea.
JoolyBooly
Aug 11 2004, 5:00 pm
I don't think either of us meant for VDB to plan the event around us, I was just saying to the rugby crowd that it they want to kart, then all hope isn't lost
Jimbo
Aug 11 2004, 5:03 pm
Yep, only issue is how long this karting thing will last? If it's a few hours then 5 may be a touch late - most people are gonna want to eat and shower before heading down to GMs I should think, and there's no way I'm eating beforehand - I want to keep my Power-weight ratio advantage intact.
oke, what I planned for is to try to make the reservations for around 6-7pm on Sunday evening or a little earlier. That's totally unrelated to the Rugby, but it's good to know now that it doesn't interfere after all. Because aside of people being tired I could imagine some people would like to watch the rugby and go karting afterwards.
Jimbo - Considering the time the karting will take, the whole program last about 30-40 minutes and we'll need two rounds because we're with more than 15 people. So including waiting time I don't count on more than two hours, which is early enough to head down to Murphy's afterwards.
This is ofcourse all dependent on the availability of the karting track, and I don't know that until I made the reservation (which I'll do this Friday).

Earlier if possible mate. How many of us can go the whole day without having a beer

Beer+Karting=Drunk Race Driving=not good.
See what you can get anyway.

Aug 12 2004, 9:04 am
'tis indeed a good point - now the football's started I'll inevitably be watching a match at some point in the day time if we don't start until 6 or 7, and that will also mean I'll inevitably be drinking, which inevitably means I won't be able to go go-karting. See what's available and I'll see if I can go cold turkey for a few hours.

Usually in the past where 2 events have conflicted and I've wanted to do both. I just choose one and miss the other. It's crap, but thats the way it is.
My understanding is that the TR finishes after this tournament, so those who are enjoying the TR should go to this as it is the last chance to do it this summer. Karting we can orgainse again and again and again and again.

@Bubblylady - Sorry
As far as I am aware, as no TR player list has been put up anywhere, there is only about 3 people in this list who will be at TR that day(Please feel free to correct me here). Now VDB has said he wants to satisfy everybody, but this obviously isnt the case. It is coming across that this event is being organised to suit the TR people. I'll be half pissed by the time 5pm comes around.
Drinking before getting in to a go kart is a big no no!!

@Bubbles - I've never raced a kart anywhere, let alone Munich, but Sixt let me borrow a car a few weeks back, so I should be good for a kart...and as for TR, let's not start that whole 'TouchRugbyTown' row again...
