Ok, I reserved the kart track for:
Sunday 29th of August @ 17:00
Kart Palast, Hansastr. 5, near U4/U5 Westendstr.Website:
Kart PalastThe reservation includes a track reservation for 15 people for 385 euros total and 5 separate kart reservations for 30 euros per kart. Additionally everybody needs to buy a membership card for 2.50. So the carting will set you back
30 euros in total. The track reservation is fixed but the number of separate kart reservation can be changed slightly until a couple of days before the event.
I hope I satisfied the most people possible, sadly not everyone, with this time. If you're on the list below
you're part of the reservation which is independent if you show up or not. I'm happy to accommodate slight changes but I just made a 500+ euro reservation on my name, address, birthday, etc.., so don't push your luck.

Hmmm...
QUOTE
For those of you who can't read German or are too lazy to check the website , this is the intended program: First a 8 lap Qualifying race to determine the start grid for the race and than a 22 lap race. After that there's a cermonial honnering of the numbers 1, 2 and 3 with Sekt. Total program lasts about 40 minutes.
Are we going for this format which you mentioned before (the 2nd race format on their site) or the first one which is 385eur?
If its the first one its 7 laps qualifying and an 18 lap race.
Tom...
it's the first format, the second format is only possible when you make a complete track reservation. With 20 people a single track reservation is not enough and two track reservation is too much. Thus the only possibility was the first format, which allows for separate kart reservations.

cool, just wanted to clarify

Tom...
Some issues came up with the booking of the kart track on Sunday the 29th August. Kart palast intends to organize an open race on this day between 17:00 and 20:00. They now asked me if we're interested in joining this race or that we want to keep the current booking.
This is what they explained to me about the open race:
- Everyone races 4 races of six rounds and collects points in those races as a kind of qualification. In every race you start with a different kart and from a different start position.
- Afterwards there are semi-finals and finals with in the end a ceremonial honoring of the numbers 1, 2 and 3 with Sekt and Medals.
- There will be experienced kart drivers joining in this race. So I think it's not really likely a lot of us will qualify for the final rounds.
- The costs of the open race are €35 per person with additionally €2,50 for a member card. In return you participate in a three hour program instead of driving for only half an hour (original costs were about €30,-).
I propose that we choice between joining the open race or keeping the current booking on the basis of the majority opinion of the people participating. If we keep the current booking nothing changes to the program since I already reserved the track. The open race will than still take place but start only after we have finished (around 6 o'clock). I promised to let them know by Friday which choice we'll make.
I dont mind, either is ok for me so I abstain from voting. Whatever is convienient for the touch rugby team.

Well, I don't think I'll be a bad driver, but not good enough to race professionals, so I'd rather keep it TT only - what time would we now have to start if we did that?
the time can stay the same if we want to, they'll just start later with the open race.
Maybe to clarify a little. It is not the case that there are professional drivers at this event. It's simply open to everybody who want to participate and this is likely to include some people with much more karting experience than most of the TT people.

Then I say keep the booking - though I'm not too fussed.
strange, I treid to PM everybody on the list to get everybody's opinion but it looks like something went wrong with sending the PM's.

I'm easy, I imagine everyone will choose the TT only format... However, if we do this, I like the sound of the open race too... Anyone gonna join me in that race after the first race?

How do I book the open race? just give them a call?
Tom...
yeah, i would just give them a call. You could also look at their website since it's also advertised there

I am just going for the fun and not a real competition, so i would prefer a TT only event too...

Hi VDB, I vote we stick to our booking as if I am paying that much to kart, I want to know who I am up against! And I agree, the chances are people like me will only get to round one, so not much karting for your money.
Let's stick to TT, I have been practising here in Blighty in a TT cabrio this weekend so watch out!
ok, I confirmed to Kartpalast that we'll stick to the original program, so a TT only event. Also two more (Dutch) people will join us for the carting which makes it a total of 22 now.
On Sunday we'll have to be at Kartpalast around 4:30 so that they can give proper instruction and we can start racing at 5:00. If there's interest we could meet up in advance for a pre-drink (limited of course, never wise to drink much before going carting) and head there together.

Aug 23 2004, 2:49 pm
I think drinking beforehand is a bad idea - 22 expats turn up smelling of booze and ciggies? I wouldn't let us drive...

Shame I have to miss the fun, but alas a guy's night out in London is calling, especially with it being the August Bank Holiday. I think this one will take me a week to recover !
@Jimbo - yeah, expected this response. I believe everybody's wise enough to know what they're doing and keep any drinking limited.
I've been caring multiple times after a couple of beers and it never made a difference. Don't know how it is here in Germany but in Holland most carting tracks I've seen even have there own bar facilities to help people pass the time when they're waiting. So you wont get turned away for drinking a single beer.
And something else. If you don't want to go karting but are still interested in coming along as a spectator that's of course also no problem.

VDB!!!.
I THINK THEY WILL NOT LET YOU CART IF YOU HAVE HAD ANY AMOUNT OF ALCHOLIC DRINK BEFOREHAND. IF I REMEMBER RIGHTLY THERE'S A SIGN THERE WHICH STATES THAT FACT.
I COULD BE WRONG.
BUT I ALSO DONT WANT TO READ ANY POSTS ON MONDAY ABOUT SAID THING HAPPENING.
IT WOULD BE WISE IF SOMEONE CHECKED THIS BEFORHAND.

Mate, I think you meant Karting. Though if you did mean caring then no I dont want to go on caring
Would have been nice if it was earlier in the day, but as it turns out, I do have a lot to do before next week so hopefully you will stick another 500€ on your card soon.
Very quickly, just to echo Gideons words above - 'IF THEY SMELL ALCOHOL ON YOU, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO KART AND YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO PAY'
Having a few beers then getting in to a car and driving home is daft, but also considered by many not too dangerous as most of us are not drunk after a few beers. Though in this case you will not be driving, you will be racing and one certainty is that your reaction times will be slightly impaired.
They served beer at the last place I went to, and not surpisingly, none of us had a beer before or during the event, most of us drank water, as you get pretty hot in those overalls.
oke, it was just an idea. I won't be responsible for people getting turned away because of exisive drinking beforehand.
@gideon - Of course there's a sign that they will turn you away if you drink beforehand. Otherwise they are not legally allowed to keep drunk people of the track. But that doesn't imply they will remove you if you had a single beer.
gideon
Aug 23 2004, 3:27 pm
more than likely they will not be inssured if people are racing having consumed alchol. which means they don't give a fuck about you, they just wont let you on. this is germany. if they smell alchol then bye bye. if you crash and it's proven that you've had ylchol, then talk to jimbo about getting a lawyer.

Oh, whilst this is alive and kicking, I'll just say now that I don't think I'll be there - this is subject to change of course, but if I'm not there, don't sit around waiting (not that you would of course).

Aug 24 2004, 10:08 am
thanks Tom17, i haven't been karting before in Germany so I wasn't totally sure if there possibly was a difference with Holland, but there doesn't seem to be.
the sole purpose of my suggestion to meet up in advance was that it's easier for everyone to be there on time.

Aug 24 2004, 10:12 am
@Jimbo, you'll have to pretty fast to make up your mind about this and tell me about it. No show means you have to pay anyway and I don't know until when i can change the number of people without paying (officially, according to the reservation, you would be paying 70% if the costs if you cancel now)
gideon
Aug 24 2004, 10:17 am
just rang the owners for you guys, and to bring the alcohol debate to an end, he siad 'lieber nicht'. a radler 'may be ok' but even the most experienced drivers they know leave the drinking till after.

You've booked for 15 people and so far have 20 confirmed. It shouldnt cost anything if Jimbo drops out now?

Aug 24 2004, 10:43 am
Well anyway, whatever the score is, I'm filling up with a cold and I don't much fancy it anyway whatever the situation so please cancel my spot Dirk - should it be the case that I owe money then don't cancel it and I'll try and sell the spot on to somebody else - if I can't do that I'll either go or just pay 100% anyway - ist mir egal.
Sorry for the inconvenience by the way mate, but my time in Munich is short and there are other things that I'd like to do - I can kart in England. Anyway, if you give 'em a buzz and let me know - as I said, i have to pay it's not a problem.

Aug 24 2004, 11:21 am

Hope you will represent myself properly and dont embarress me.
If I can make it somehow I try at least to come for the award ceremony.
I actually was there last year with the company and got third !!! (out of 110 ppl) Not too bad, ey
maybee rename bubblylady then into speedylady?
but yeah its sorted now. And bubblylady you can always come along if you have time. I doubt the track will be full when we are racing so in that case you can still join in.
as for the pre-karting event. San and myself plan to go play beachvolleybal
here before the karting, probably from two to three. Just let me know if you're interrested in coming along.

So who won then??? I recognise Sander in 3rd place there, but I can't make out the 2nd placed driver's face, and I have no idea who's on the top of the podium - is it this dangerously quick Dutchman???
