What are some fun/interesting things to do in Munich on the weekends, during the day, that don't involve bars? Not that I don't like the drink, just looking for some good, clean fun activities. Think museums, zoos, etc.. I've been bored out of my gourd lately!

There are several good English-language movie theaters, and there's the opera.

There are several places for bowling, and billiards. There's ice-skating, plenty of public pools, and several with saunas.

Shopping can be fun sometimes, as are long walks.

Art projects can fill some free time and there are english books at the public library.

If you're just lonely and don't want to do any of this stuff alone, post your plan to the meetups section and people will often turn up for it.

- Bowling
- Movie theaters
- Various Museums: Deutsches Museum (that can keep you busy for several days), Pinakotheken (Alte, Neue, Moderne), Jagd- und Fischerei-Museum, BMW Museum (re-opens in the summer, June I think), Nymphenburg Museum für Mensch und Natur (I think is what it's called), etc etc.
- Nymphenburg castle + botanical gardens

State museums (I know the Pinakotheken are) have free admission on Sundays in all of Bavaria. This is a list of museums in Munich.

Not to forget: shopping!

If you've just moved here, you could also do the tourist program for Munich. See the Olympiapark, downtown area with various churches and stuff, Nymphenburg, and so on.

Hi All,

Can you all suggest the best ways to spend weekends and holidays in Munich? Also are there any organised group tours over the weekends to places/countries around Munich?

Would love it if I can find ways to spend my time best!

Some of the bus companies based around Isartor offer excursions.
But to be honest, just pick a destination, get a Bayern Ticket and go for the day out on the train.

There is an information centre in the townhall (Marienplatz) under the Glockenspiel in the centre of Munich.

Also, try www.radiusmunich.com for tours around Munich.

Alternatively, there are some great beer gardens if you want to spend the whole day drinking wink.gif

Hope that helps.

Museums? Munich has some wonderful museums.

A trip to Salzburg would be another possibility.
