Hi all, I've been living in Bamberg, Germany for 2 years now, and just stumbled onto this site today. Pretty useful info that I needed a long time ago!

I found it in my endless googling in my search for things to do and possibly a job. Now that I've seen the sights I'm ready to settle in and "live" here.

I'm an Army spouse, so the move was a matter of course and not choice, but I really like it here. It's been difficult to make friends here with the other spouses since they claim to hate it and are perfectly content to stay on post and never leave it. Sad. My husband and I chose to live off post, so I've become a big fan of the bus system and I've managed to get over a lot of "American hang-ups" people seem to have. Heck, I can even drive a standard now.

In the process of learning German, I can count and order food. I can grasp the meaning of signs and adverts. I can translate horse for sale adds. (that's a whole other "quest" I'm on)

My husband put in the extend our time here, so that'll give another 4 years if we get approved. I have a dog and a couple of fish tanks. I've learned to like Beer. But the Irish Pub downtown can make one heck of a Long Island that'll have you walking crooked in no time.

Other than that, just waiting on Spring to get here.

Welcome to the site, mandelyn, and good on you for getting off post and seeing the real world!

Yeah, it's good to get out. I've even mastered the art of heels and cobblestone!

Hi, my name is Will. I'm here visiting my children/ex-wife who is in the Army. I'd like to stay here and be near my children, but I'm not sure how to go about accomplishing this. Any advice would be most welcome.
