Hello TT Folks
I am visiting Munchen for a month in April 2007 and wonder if anyone can recommend some good piano bars
and also jazz brunch locations where they might have a pianist or small group playing jazz while you eat.

thank you

Hi Stephen,

You might want to try Cafe am Beethovenplatz. They have jazz or classic live music every Sunday from around 11:00am. If you go to their homepage and click "Musikprogram", you can see what's playing what day. Enjoy your stay in Munich.

Kaffee Giesing http://www.kaffee-giesing.de/ has live jazz music almost every night. Jazzbar Vogler http://www.jazzbar-vogler.com/index.html is also a nice hangout - jam session is Monday nights. For brunch I can recommend The Big Easy http://www.thebigeasy.de/index.html - the food is excellent and they have a jazz pianist playing most Sundays.

I know the Big Easy is smoke free, but can anyone vouch for the other places?

The Cafe am Beethovenplatz, for example - is it smoke free?

Jazz on sundays.

I frequent Jazzclub Unterfahrt, Einsteinstrasse 42 (Max Weberplatz U4/U5), 089-4482794, they are not open for brunch however. Monday - Sunday they open at 7:30pm and stay open until 1 am. In between the concerts (which normally begin at 9PM) there is a great local jazz scene performing. Most Sundays they hold Jam Night for local artists. Check out there schedule here: Unterfahrt Calendar
Voglers has a great atmoshere and features "The Art of the Piano" Tues-Thursday evenings.
BTW- Great samples on your site, you should drop by for a jam session! wink.gif

Cafe am Beethovenplatz aka Cafe Mariandl was very very smoky last time I went, which was about two years ago. Nice brunch and nice jazz if you don't mind smoke.

The Big Easy completely non-smoking? I think there's been a misunderstanding. Last I heard they had a nonsmoking section, but the http://belair-muenchen.de website actually gets frequent complaints about the BE not taking the non-smoking section seriously. I've never been, but maybe someone will post a more recent update on the TT review page ( http://www.toytowngermany.com/munich/the_big_easy.html ) Maddigliana, have you been there and it's been completely smoke-free? They're set to be removed from the belair database, they're so bad. ( http://test.rauchfreie-gastronomie.de/bewe...amer=Big%20Easy )

Unterfahrt's jazz performances are non-smoking too. I still haven't been since they switched, must get out more.

I know the Big Easy is smoke free

It certainly isn't.
The top section is allegedly a non-smoking section, but I've never seen anyone been asked to stop, not in all the years I've been going there since it opened.
Especially as they sell rather good cigars to go with their rather good cocktails. The cigarette machine is next to the toilets which are also in the non-smoking area.
Good air-conditioning in any case.
