Hi,

I'm looking to buy some hiking stuff.

Does anyone know where the stores are in town? Any close to Schwabing or to downtown?

Cheers,
Ura

Depending on what you want, Därr in Theresienstr., Sports Scheck in Sendlingerstr., Karstadt Sport at Stacchus, Sport Bittl in Laim.

After Sports Schuster fell on my best friend's head, they can shag right off.

You could also try Basecamp, but I have to say that hiking gear is one of the few things that I still buy in the UK. I find outdoor gear to be "trendy" here, with the prices to match. Karstadt is my first and only choice here really.

Oh, and there is a limited but good-value selection of outdoor clothes in K&L. They closed down their Kaufingerstr. store last year, but are still in Riem.

Have you got a Globetrotter down there? There's an excellent one in Hamburg, and I believe it's a national chain...

I got my boots from Outdoor Schuhe:

and I've been very happy with them. The shop is set up for hikers/skiers rather than trendoids.
I seem to remember there were 2 or 3 'outdoor' shops nearby, but this was a couple of years ago.

There is a place on Alte Allee in Obermenzing. Called something like "Lausch". It's a heavy duty round-the-world-expedition type place. I'll edit the name in later.

And went all trendy, replacing an entrance filled with climbing ropes & harnesses, ice screws, crampons and other proper gear with pastel coloured Nordic walking shit for overweight old people, cranked the prices to the roof and went with the 'if the shop looks nice people will pay over the odds there' mantra. No, Schuester is a sorry second now to the good old shop that they tore down.

go to www.gea-muc.de (its in english) its the german english association here and they plan hikes every sunday throughout the year. Look at their schedule of events and you will see what time/place they meet up on sundays..

was in sportscheck and schuster today looking at hiking gear. Schuster seemed to be putting a lot of hiking gear our on the shelves (I guess new season stuff) and did have some stuff on sale as well. Also North Face on Sendlingerstr. as well has clothing etc and some stuff in sale as well.
