IIRC as the spouse of a German citizen you get a residency visa for two years. If you're still married at the end of those two years, you get an Aufenthaltsberechtigung (permanent residency visa, i.e. right of abode). Your spouse will likely have to sign a paper saying he'll support you, and you will also likely have to provide a police record from your home country or city if they get picky, but other than that it's not a big deal. However, IIRC if you leave Germany for more than 90 days, you lose your visa and have to apply again.

More about it here: Permanent visas

Just being married to a German calls your decision making capabilities into question. wink.gif

I got a residency permit in November as the (american) spouse of a german citizen, and it was for three years. The permit said that i can work.

I obtained a residency permit last week, as the spouse of a German citizen. It allows me to work and is valid for three years.

The whole process took 30 minutes and it was free.

Your husband is smarter than you are and I am sure I am not just the second one to say that. laugh.gif
