A Dirndl is a Bavarian dress. I reckon they're really sexy. I have been seduced by a
Dirndl wearer on more than one occasion.

National costume, as worn by women in this neck of the woods. You will see them lurking with abundance at around Okt.fest time.

You will find quite reasonable dirndl's at
Pat's Secondhand Boutique. In fairness most of the stuff I've seen there doesn't really look secondhand. It's all very good quality. I think some of it is end of line or factory reject items. There's a few of them around Munich but I think
the one in Tal is probably the best for the
Oktoberfest stuff.

Morning,
My drindl is from
Pat's im Tal and I would really recommend that anyone who wants one shops early enough, i.e. at least 3 weeks before Anstich.
Skandal has very nice stuff, Pat's might be better for less regular wearers as you can get a drindl/apron/underskirt/top for 80€ complete.
Most of the stuff in Pat's comes from Austria and is end of lines rather than true secondhand. The quality is ok but you should still check the zips. My current one is brown with burnt orange and sky blue embroidery so not traditional, though I'd like one to go with my Salzburger Tracht loden green hunting jacket, crikey I've had that *counts using fingers* 10 years now
And for the all-essential "Holz vor der Hütt'n" - Susi brand drindl bras from
Hertie am Hauptbahnhof or Loden-Frey (which sells no other women's underwear).

The shops are basically the same although I think there may be one or two extras which have opened up.
Here's some more info on the subject. Sorry can't resist. I'm gutted at being out of town as it all starts to kick off.

There are 3 shops in Tal that sell Dirndls that I know of (or rather, that I was dragged around at the weekend):
1.
Pat's Boutique, next to
Sausalito's
2.
Wiesn-Tracht und Mehr, across the street (pictured below)
3. Some other shop that sells 2nd hand clothes all year round. Same side of the street as Pat's, nearer the Isartor. Dirndls etc are upstairs.

I got mine at Arsen und Spitzenhäubchen -- also a vintage clothing shop. Excellent. There are cheap dirndls out there that really look cheap... (no showem don't even start, I'm not talkin' to you! ) you'll know 'em when you see 'em. And if you don't, all the better!

I bought one this past Saturday at a shop on Augustenstr, sort of between the Theresienstr and Josephplatz stops on the U2. Cannot remember the name, but has second hand and some new, and mannequins with dirndls on outside so its hard to miss.
Petal and I had a look at those at Loden Fry several weeks ago, just for a laugh. Saw one on sale for €2500! For appearances sake, we fought over it, then loudly decided the quality just wasn't quite there...

I bought my dirndl at
Loden Fry's outlet which is on the Frankfurter ring - very close to the
Olympia Einkaufszentrum. I paid $150 for the whole outfit(dress and shirt, tacky necklace, socks). The dirndls there are very pretty, not slutty looking and I got lots of compliments on mine. It's worth a try.

as a native bavarian girl I would also reccomend he second hand shops:
there's a good one in Sendlingerstr. and another Im Tal.
That's the cheapest option at least. But all the big department stores like Kaufhof or

that depends on the dirndl, usually the Dirndls are made of linen or other heavy garment so you were boots with it. Official name for them are "Haferlschuhe" but you can use usual trekking shoes with wollen socks and edelweiss Please please pleeeaaase dont wear a Dirndl with runners, what a disgrace! (even though some natives do so).
If you have a finer Dirndl, with fine blouses and aprin you should wear some kind of pumps or the traditional flat shoes, which match the rest of the Dirndl and ideally your handbag

So I went Wies'n shopping today and found a great outfit. Not a Dirndl, but definitely Trachtenkleidung - a nice linen blouse, skirt and a wool coat all for the grand ole price of 15€ at the Flohmarkt. Yippee! Quality Wies'n outfit at a student price.
Afterwards, I went to find something for my husband to wear. I went down to the second hand store on Lindwurmstraße near Poccistraße, and lo and behold there was a gaggle of English-speakers also Wies'n shopping. Any chance some of you TTers were there?
BTW, the second hand store north of
Karlsplatz that I mentioned previously (which turned out to be on Bayerstraße) has closed down. Unfortunately, it looks like it's been sold and will soon be yet another tourist boutique.

sorry for the late reply...
Well you know the rat haus?
Well when you looking at it from the front turn to your right and walk down that street. Then walk through that little bridge way and keep following it down. Then on your left hand side theres an arcade - Walk past that and you will come to zahn platz. at a set of lights. Just before the set oflights directly across the road is this place. I wish i knew the bloody name of it however it use to be a shoe store on the corner... wait it still is a shoe store but on the inside the owners have opened it up and made the second hand store the ledder hose place...
i paid for a very nice pair of ledder hose about 300. thats really expensive but they look fabaroonie and since ill be here for wuite some time i thought what the hell...THe real bayerns (my friends) say that they literally last for ever.and the Wiesn things can get pretty bloody dirty and so the leather hose are your best bet...
anyway must be off

does anyone have the map or address of the Loden Frey outlet store?
As for shoes, you either buy the traditional ones (no ta!) or just wear comfy stuff like black heels, and some normal tights. Seems to be what most wear.
PS: I heard it's a good idea to wear shorts underneath as you're up on a bench all the time, someone told me hers was pulled up all the time and one guy actually pulled her friend's knickers down!

Katrina
25.Aug.2004 13:08 hrs
Knickers with coverage are a good idea, not just because of someone trying to pull your drindl up but more likely due to the risk of falling over. But it depends if you are on the market (and which market!) or not.
Stomach-flattening knickers are not advisable because you will want to pee constantly.
Longer lace-up boots seem to be a big seller this year. I would personally advise against heels due to benches, grass, mud, slats, drunkeness, etc., but I'm not that good in heels sober so horses for courses really.

i tried to check out the Loden Frey outlet, but alas, they are on sommerpause until next week- the 30th i think?
the address is
Triebstraße 36-38

easiest way to get there is to take the U3 to olympiazentrum and then bus 36 to moosach and get off at Lassallestraße. it's just across the street (caddy corner) from the bus stop.

OK; reporting in!
I went to the "Kleidermarkt" opposite Pats, in Tal, last night. Upstairs they have a few things, and way cheaper than Pats although the selection isn't as big.
The Dirndl I saw in Pats was €50, I paid €30 in the Kleidermarkt, plus 12 for an apron, 12 for a cute blouse and 15 for a designer jacket which I adore...
The only problem is, surely you can get arrested for wearing those things in public? Talk about tit-tastic, I'm sure my boobs are going to come out to play at some point...

26.Aug.2004 08:53 hrs
Then you need to go to

Mind you, seeing as you are single, you might not want to do this

forget the Dirndl bra, I had a "normal" (allbeit push-up) bra on last night and can hardly do the dress up anyway!
As the for Dirndl top, no chance... is is being strategically placed to make a Bristol-frame, but it is like a wrap-around, doesn't do up...
I have to say, I'll get toast and Petal to check it when we go shopping on Saturday but I really like it and I agree, I'm single so have to flaunt what I have!

Tim Hortons Lady, how long have you been in town? 3 months? What do you need a "special" Dirndl for? I doubt with all sincerity and with no malice intended, that since you don't know what you are buying, that you should just go whatever catches your fancy and fits your budget.
