Hello,

2nd attempt any of you been a weekend in Bern, Switzerland? I am looking for a hotel. It is either there or Zurich.

How's that?
(and yes I used the search button for both)

Ive stayed in Interlaken and have done day trips to Bern so if you do decide on Bern be sure to head up to Interlaken. Absolutely gorgeous views. Surprising appearance of a Hooters right next to the very nice Victoria Jungrau Hotel too. Dont bother poking in there though, really expensive and not much to look at, er if you know what I mean. The Hooters tha is, the Hotel is probably one of my favourites in all of Europe.

Distance from Bern airport to Interlaken is:

Bern-Belp / regional and swiss airlines.
Rail: distance 60 km / travelling time 1 h 10'
Road: distance 48 km / driving time 35 Min.

Bern is a cute town. I dont know anything about the nightlife and such as I wasnt looking for it but I did enjoy myself there.
Surprised at how small the airport is - you take a small hopper there and you literally get greeted by the smell of cows as you get dumped off on the runway.

Bern is a cute town.

One of the first things I learned in Bern was that you should never tell any Swiss that their town/country/language is cute, it annoys them. sad.gif

Gratuitous references to The Sound of Music and Heidi go over fabulously, however.

What about supermarkets in Bern? Maybe some of our nice TT members who live around there could provide me with information about how late are supermarkets in Bern and whether they are opened or not Saturday next week (Easter).

Panama, I have a girlfriend that lives in Bern, I will ask her, I know Migros is generally open, but til how late in saturday, I don't know.

AFAIK supermarkets in Switzerland (Migros, Coop, etc.) are normally open on Easter Saturday, most likely until either 5pm or 6pm, as opening times may vary from one region to another. They are closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
Carm
just heard back from her- Good Friday and Easter Sunday & Monday all the stores are closed. The Saturday in between the stores are open 8 to 5. The shops in the train station (like a small mall) should be open every day though.
hope this helps you some.
she also mentioned checking the Bern Tourist site, might have more information about Easter Weekend opening hours.

Thanks for the info. I also heard from a friend over there that the Migros in the train station is opened everyday. I hope it's like that, it would be really convenient.
Carm
don't tell that to the people on the sunday shopping thread! ohmy.gif

I'm pretty sure the Swiss won't know what you're talking about if you discuss "Sound of Music" considering it was filmed in Salzburg, AUSTRIA and is pretty uncommon to be shown in German speaking countries. Recently got back from a trip to both Salzburg, and Bern and most locals had never heard of the movie - even the songs were made up purely for the movie. But then again, I can always be wrong. Maienfeld on the otherhand is Heidi crazy, but very pretty.
