I'm not usually into horror movies but the 1st Alien movie is one of my favorite flicks of all time. It is, IMHO, the quintessential example of suspense; it is scary as hell. Aliens was another great movie. More action, and good action at that, but it lacked some of the appeal that the 1st had. Still, one of my favorites. The other two Alien movies I'd prefer to forget.
Predator, while a bit hokey at times, is one of the more original Sci-Fi movies made and I confess to being a big fan of it as well. P2 sucked.
Anyway, I've been anxiously awaiting the release of Alien vs. Predator which promises to pitch the two scariest, most unique, and most badass aliens Hollywood has ever come up with against each other (notice in Predator 2 on the alien's ship they've got a "trophy room" of skulls from various species - one of which is a skull from the Alien's alien). Anxiously awaiting until I saw the
trailers that is. The movie looks positively horrible, and with a PG-13 rating what can we really expect!?
Has Hollywood ruined not one, but two franchises in one shot? I'll wait until I see it before forming a real opinion but right now my expectations are low (proabbly a good thing).

I would assume that "Alien vs Predator" the film is more likely to be aimed at people who played the 'puter game of the same name (and probably say things like l33t alot - hence the certifcate 13) rather than a film living up to the huge potential that it should have.
Sad really.

you just have to hope for it to rock and expect it to suck. I will see it either way. Just to be sure.
And really, wasn't the Predator series ruined with Predator 2? And for that matter Alien Resurrection was no peach either, I mean Winona Ryder as a robot, c'mon. Robotss are either supposed to be badass killers like Ash or Badass good guys like Bishop.
still, though. it could be pretty sweet.

Well I really hope AVP is worth my hard earned cash. Lately it seems like all TPTB of the relative francises dont give a flying f..k about the quality of the product but rather prefer making shit that appeals mainly to the flavour of the moment crowd. Like the latest box office bomb Thundebirds. WTF is that? Hey its Thunderbirds but its also kinda Dawson's Creek teeny drama.Oh please! Cant they just stick to the plain old formula???Havnt they learned yet that people dont want "New Coke".

Want to see this film as well.
Dont know if any of you have heard of this film before, but its a short Batman film. The scene at the beginning between Batman & The Joker is excellent and gives some good insight in to their history, the film then takes on and unexpected twist...

Very nice link to the short film. I am also looking forward to the new Frank Miller inspired Batman film.

The trailer looks okay, although I don't hold too much hope if it's only got a PG-13 rating.

@3lions
Am I right in saying there was a Alien V Predator comic strip around for a while?
I'm actually looking forward to this - when I first heard of it I was wondering how in the heck were they going to get humans into this without it being realy stupid. But after seeing the trailer I kind of think it will be good. I didn't know it was PG13 - but then again that doesn't mean what it used to - what qualifies as PG13 was probably 18's back in the day. Besides I think that it is PG13 just means there is no shagging in it - which whilst I'm dissapointed we won't be seeing some alien sex - it shouldn't affect the general scariness involved.

@Meckle - I believe they did a few 4pt mini series. I used to have AvP II which was a 4 parter.
The premise I believe involves a group of scientists who are investigating an ancient ruin and find themselves in the middle of something they didnt expect.

if the dialogue between the humans is kept to a minimum, it will rock. Also, the Aliens/Predators will have to be the winners. No human should be left standing.

So, it seems like in the trailer they are someplace really cold. Am I wrong in thinking that the Predators are sensitive to temperature? Didn't they only visit in the hottest years?
OK, it can be explained away in the script somehow, but doesn't bode well at first glance.

They are in an Aztec temple. Should be warm enough for everybody there.
Don't know if it will be good or not, but I'll probably go see it anyways.

I just want to see some alien fightin' too. I am only a little ashamed to say that I even enjoy crappy sci-fi. just give me some creatures and explosions and swiss-cheese plot and some nice space-shots and I won't complain.
And it is an Aztec temple in Antarctica. The plot sounds actually half-way thought out from the synopsis (at least thought out in the sense of "taking into account the world in which the back-story and related material took place"). So, as long as the actors don't say to much it ought to be ok.
Interestingly Lance Henriksen (Bishop of Aliens, et al) returns. Seems to be something to it, plot-wise, but I am not into giving away plot details uninvited. read for yourselves.

Unlikely. At least one human should be left and that is Weyland. (Yes that Weyland from Weyland-Yutani. ) For continuitly sake he should be left standing.

Can't believe this thread has gone on so long with no comment on who will actually win.
One on one a Predator is going to kick some serious Alien ass, but only cause of it's pansy guns. Take away the equipment and it's "say hello to my tounge through the back of your head" for Preddy Baby.
My heart says Aliens, my head says Predator.

Oooh, maybe a Predator-Alien born from the infection of a Predator by Alien spawn.

I'd go with that. The predators will ultimately team up with the humans as they grow to respect each other despite their differences thus teaching us that Muslims and Christians can live in harmony since fundamentally they are all good on the inside. They will then defeat the Aliens showing that good will always triumph over evil. Ultimately the leader of the predators (or at least one who we can most identify with as a friend and/or all round decent bloke) will have one of those Alien bursting from his stomach moments symbolising the fact that you cannot have 'good' unless you always have 'evil' to define it and of course doffing a symbolic cap in the direction of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This also leaves the door open for the sequel "Predators & Humans Vs Aliens". At this moment Bobby will step out of the shower and ...

I just saw the movie this weekend...The plot was horrible and you could tell it was no Ridley scott or a cameron movie, but the action scenes kicked ass. They definately should have spent more time on the plot and maybe even developed it more cause the movie was less than an hour and a half. It takes place in the present, on earth and Bishop is in it. How does that make sense? It in no way ties into any of the previous Alien or Predator movies which they should have done.
I think they should have it similar to Alien (the first one) but instead have the predators land on the planet and go into that ship and dscover the eggs and then buld it on from there. Screw the humans..Maybe have Michael Biehn (if he's not too old) in it with a new team of Marines. I'm pretty sure he wasn't killed at the end of aliens but i could be wrong.

If you look at the continuity to Alien 3, Hicks is killed at the start of this film along with Newt. So he dies somewhere between the closing credits of Aliens and the opening credits of Alien 3, unfortunately.

Paul Anderson
screened it, pre-release, for colleagues and friends, who then proceeded to guffaw their way through it, with one wag shouting "
Gimme some sugar baby!" during a pivotal scene. Anderson claimed that the film is unfinished. He also claims that
Event Horizon is missing circa 20 minutes, that was recorded to video and subsequently lost. Believe what you want.
Has anyone borne witness to the sequel yet,
Alien vs. Predator: Requiem?

Any alien, predator, etc... type of movie will fail unless a "marine" theme is built in it. The problem wilh alien vs predator was they could not put a strong human side as that would interfere with predator character. Idont think they would fix it in this one
Punchbear
Feb 3 2008, 10:54 am
Didn't the marines play a large role in the original Dark Horse comics, as they played out during the colonial era of the Aliens universe? It's been a while since I read them, but iirc there was a
script that relied much more on the original comic material, by Peter Briggs.
QUOTE
the script in question has largely been jettisoned in favour of a new storyline completely removed from any pre-existing material...while long since jettisoned, Peter Briggs' script is an interesting look at a potential meeting of the two species that is simple and at least entertaining, if a little bit empty and derivative. But, it is admitted to be based directly on previously written material, so the screenwriter does deserve credit for attempting to elevate it into something new

Hmm, how best to put this...AVP2 is an insult to the originals. It lifts scenes directly from the Aliens 1-4 and the Predators, not just homages, but the same music, the same dialogue, the same sound effects, the same shots, blow-for-blow, frame-for-frame. And not just once, but continuously. Newts sewer scene from Aliens? It's here. The xenomorph putting its face next to Ripleys in Alien3? Yup. The alien pressing its face up against a plastic covering in the infirmary? Yup. Alien swimming underwater? Yes. Ripley taking control of the APC? Music, lighting, dialogue reproduced right here. Long pan up tree with drumbeat, revealing skinned corpse. Present and correct. Predator emerging from water, perched on a tree, pan over its head revealing city, extending spear dramatically? Newt figure/daughter-of-absentee-mother who mutters about monsters? Hero called Dallas? "Get to the chopper!!"? It doesn't stop. The list goes absofuckinglutely relentlessly on. If it was on youtube as a fan movie using scenes from the originals, it'd be an accomplishment, a great feat of editing.
But it's not. Not a single original thought in the movie, not one, not even an attempt at one*, everything is shamelessly recycled. There're probably interviews out there with the brothers, where they claim it's one for the fans by fans. But I'd imagine that fans watching this will happily spot the first obvious references and quickly start to wonder if there's actually a film in between the barrage of knock-offs and careless plagiarism. They'd be right.
A hearty AVOID.
*Maybe the Predator detaching its shoulder cannons and using them like pistols..

One of my favorite scenes in Aliens was the Robot Sentry Guns devastating alien troops. This scene was showing the potential of humans, however that potential was always failing due to a concidence or stupidity. Was there something like that in the movie as well? Also, i will definitely watch it even if it is the worst movie in the history. Just cant let it go.

Feb 4 2008, 10:26 am
No scene as good as that, humans just get massacred by predator and xenomorph alike. If they'd built some comedy into it, there could've been potential for something more in the vein of Return Of The Living Dead (with which it shares some plot points).

Just watched it (Requiem). Bad but expected. Couple of mistakes we have seen before
1. Mutated alien, seen before and does not work
2. Aliens attacking people who does not know what an alien is, seen before and does not work
3. Idiot soldiers, seen before and does not work
4. Evil commander, seen before and does not work
At least predator was not friendly to humans.
