Kurzstrecke on the Berlin public transport

How many stops on the U/S-Bahn, bus, or tram?

Hello how many train stops can you use the Kurzstrecke on the U and S Bahn?
Mariposa
In Berlin it's up to 3 stops on S/U Bahn and up to 6 on bus/tram.

For Munich 2 and 4.

Which city are you asking about?
smurf
thanks for your replies in relation to Berlin it's 3 stops inclusive for U and S Bahn
Hutcho
3 and 6 would be excellent, I wish they'd do that here in Munich. So many times I have to travel 3 or 6 so I would have to buy a zone 1..

Maybe the stops are closer together in Berlin...
AlysonJoan
No, the stops aren't closer together in Berlin. Berlin is just a lot bigger than Munich and has a lot more stops.

Once more Dougal, those cows are far away.

The Kurzstrecke Ticket in Berlin is also a bit more expensive than in Munich.

By the way, here you can look up all kinds of information on the Berlin public transport:

Thanks for posting the link. I actually got the info on Kurzstrecke there (on the German website version) so I would have been surprised if the English version didn't contain the same info.

You were a heroine for posting the only correct answer earlier on in the thread.

thanks jtw, good link, and thanks Mariposa - till now I had been doing the €2.10 thing for just a stop or two.
Mariposa
Yeah that would get expensive. Glad it helped. smile.gif

Yes, but in Berlin you don't have the (IMHO) stupid ring/zone system. I hated that in Munich. And a single ticket to the airport (all 3) costs 2.10 EUR tongue.gif

Well, we do have AB, BC and ABC. Is Munich's stupider?

It's nice just having an ABC Jahreskarte and not having to worry about it. smile.gif
perdido
There seems to be less stops here in berlin. I have come to the conclusion Munich system is one one of the easiest in Europe.

Erm...yeah. So instead of ABC, they have Zones 1, 2, 3, and 4. In each zone there are 4 rings - smaller zones. That means that you have to travel through 16 rings or 4 zones to get from Marienplatz to the airport. A single ticket cost EUR 8.40 (when I left over a year ago). But, if you have a zone 1 ticket and want to go 1 stop further then you either have to buy a ticket for the whole of zone 2 or use your Streifenkarte. Don't ask me how that works as even after 4 years it was still a mystery to me blink.gif

Give me AB any day. I can get pretty much anywhere in Berlin with that ticket. I have never needed an extension to Zone C, but for instance, if I wanted to go to Potsdam I would have to buy an extension ticket for the extortionate price of...EUR 1,30. wink.gif
Mariposa
No it hasn't gotten any easier. I don't really ever need to go outside the Innenraum, so I usually don't care, but going to the airport is kinda annoying. And the cheapest way is actually to use a Streifenkarte on the Innenraum and a Tagesticket on the Außenraum.

One more offtopic question -- in Munich, what if you have a two ring monthly ticket and want to go to the airport? Is your montly ticket worthless?
gooner_gal
Pretty much. Or you could get off the train at the last stop of the 2nd ring and stamp your Streifenkarte to the end of the Innenraum and then get off the train again and stamp your 3 zone single...

Yeah. If there were only two stops in rings 3 and 4, you would have been able to pay only a Kurzstrecke for the remaining stops in the Innenraum, but I just checked and it's four or something.

Sure makes one appreciate how the BVG went out of their way to draw the Berlin B/C border to go around SXF so it's covered by an AB!

It may have changed, but for a while the Potsdam ABC ticket (single and Tageskarte, at least) cost the same as the Berlin BC. Since all of Potsdam is in Berlin C, there was really no point in buying a Potsdam ABC. Nice excuse to have a ticket to go into (outer) Berlin, just in case.

Thought so, thanks for confirming!
