Bit of a baby boom going on

Seems that last year's World Cup has resulted in a bit of a baby boom in Germany. Apparently many maternity wards are fully booked with people due to have babies in April.

The Football World Cup, the tournament that just keeps on giving wink.gif

Cast your mind back, gloriously hot sunny days, watching the football in beer gardens, meeting other fans, having a great time, perhaps scoring a goal or two of your own. Wonder how many of these babies have fathers who cannot be accounted for? Cynical mind at work, sorry.

According to Business Week there's an increase of about 15% in expected births. Maternity wards are fully booked up and pre-natal classes are full. You often hear people complaining here about declining birth rates, German being an aging population and so forth. So here's the answer, more international sporting events in summer. Job oxo.

For any of you having babies around this time, which game was the one that put it in the net for you?

"He should note that prostitutes complain about the lack of customers. Soccer fans are too busy celebrating."

Everyone's in a great mood, they're probably getting it for free. Look for a mini-baby boom in 9 months. ;^)

Isn't it the same each year with Oktoberfest babies...? Wies'n kinder?
Keydeck
True. Most children conceived in Germany can be traced back to a festival, party or sporting event. Basically there's always beer involved.

As the wise Jimmy Buffet says, children are a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling.

Germany's World Cup Baby Boom
Last summer's mix of sun, beer and excitement during the football World Cup appears to have produced a massive hormone rush in German bedrooms, gardens and back alleys. Nine months on, birth clinics across the country that hosted the tournament are reporting a much-needed baby boom.

It's good news for Germany, whose birth rate at 1.36 children per woman is below the European Union average of 1.52.

Wait, I thought it wasn't possible to get pregnant doing it in the back alley?
