Advice for families moving to the area

Hello Toytowners,

My small family and I might be moving to Frankfurt and we're looking for some basic living info to help with the decision. Here's the relevant details and our wish list--a true wish list, so feel free to tell me what might have to be cut. Anyway, here goes: We are an American wife, German husband and 2-year old bilingual daughter. Would like to be in a lively yet child-friendly area. By lively, I mean some street life, cafes, shops, a way to see a few faces, not necessarily nightlife lively. Would love to have some green around, e.g. parks, woods, etc. (I don't know Frankfurt well, so perhaps "woods" is not possible?). Would hate to have to get in a car to buy some milk or do a little shopping. Would like to be near good schools. Would love to have a flat/house with garden. Guess I'm willing to pay up to €12/m warm (too little? Too much?).

Mucho thanks in advance,

Karen (notschmidt)

Hi! My husband has accepted a job starting on the 1st of June near Frankfurt. We were hoping for advice on good places to live in Frankfurt or the surrounding areas. I am British, my husband is German and we have an 18 month old baby. His job will be in Offenbach and the in-laws live in Gelnhausen (in the east of Frankfurt.) We would like to be fairly near them, i.e. within an hours drive, but also not too far from Offenbach so the commute is not long.

We are looking for an area with young families that has nice cafes, restaurants, shops. Nightlife is not too important. We want to rent initially, then to buy (or build) a house. Obviously the further from Frankfurt you go, the further your money will stretch! Any suggestions? Ideally the area needs to have a good local school.

Thanks!

You´ll have a hard time to commute for more than an hour ... since the distance between Offenbach and Gelnhausen is just about 25 miles

Well, Sachsenhausen ticks most of those boxes.
It all depends on what you want - lively, city-centre flats, or suburban Reienhäuser, or...
