Day after Pearl Jam, oh my ears. My brother is going to the Wembley one, has tickets already apparently.

What with Meatload (16th), Orchestral Manouevres in the dark (30th) and Genesis in July, something is going to have to give.
Mr Stuart
Boba - you have just made my evening... no edit - my week! laugh.gif

I saw THE WHO at the Isle of Wight Festival a couple of years back and it was one of the best gigs I have ever been to.
Uncle Nick
I wonder if I could get free tickets (they rented a flat in our house when they first formed!)
tc66
so Ed V. might stick around and make an appearance?
Boba
Don't know about that cos they're in Poland the next day, but... Pete and Roger could be in town already on the 12th...
Mr Stuart
it turns out that they didn't wait to release the tickets until the 24th Feb. I was in München Ticket yesterday and they were already on sale and about 70% were already gone.

If you want tickets, I suggest getting in there quick.

PS - I bought the new album as well - I have to say it is far from their best, but I picked up the special edition version, which has a 2nd CD of live stuff - tracklisting includes 2 or 3 of the new tunes and some classics - The Seeker, Who are you and Won't get fooled again. It is worth the €15 for that alone.
Boba
Looks like we've got the Cult supporting...
Captain Ridiculous!
Shit I hadn't realised the Who were back together touring. I'm too late for tickets so I'll miss Keith Moons inimitable drumming.
axel.schmidt
Keith Moon died in 1978. smile.gif

I'm realizing that my smile.gif appears to be at the death of one of the greatest drummers of all time. That's not what I was intending.
Katrina
The Cult?!
Hey-yeah!

Crikey, it is support bands madness what with Dino Jr supporting RHCP. HURRAH
JerseyBoy
I saw them back in '89 when Entwistle was still alive - fantastic show!!

Although Pete Townshend is my favourite songwriter of all time, I'm not sure if I want to see them live with just the two of them (i.e. Daltrey and Townshend).
NJDQ
I assume this is totally sold out ! If anyone hears of two tickets for sale please PM me !! Thanks very much.
Katrina
München Ticket still has tickets for collection only or try one of their outlets (e.g. tourist office at Rathaus).
Boba
If anyone's interested I've got a spare ticket for the standing area. Will sell for the original 60€ price or make me an offer. PM me if you want it.
Katrina
Schedule
Doors: ca. 18:15
THE CULT: ca. 19:45
THE WHO: ca. 21:00
Finish ca. 22:30
Mr Stuart
bastards, my ticket says 8pm start, I'm going to miss the Cult now. Why do German gigs always write a completely different start time on the ticket to times that actually happens. Enough blabbing - I'm off.

So. Were the extortionate ticket prices worth it?
Boba
Yes.
Simes
I wasn't going to go, but then I found out that The Cult were supporting. So I got hold of a standing ticket.

Got there nice and early for the full set of The Cult - it was like going to a secret warm up gig as most people hadn't made it to the halle yet. Got a good spot down the front so could see the whites of their eyes. Ian and Billy did good, playing all the classics and just a couple of new tracks.

Now the main act. Never seen them before, and have to admit I don't own any of their stuff (not quite old enough?!), but like most people I think I've heard pretty much all of it. Thought I'd stay down the front and see how it went...

They rocked and I gladly stayed to the very end. Sound was great, and am sure they still use their original (now partially deaf) sound engineers as my ears are still ringing - a nice touch that doesn't happen much these days! Superb visuals as well - loved the old film footage as well as the cgi on those moveable screens.

Ten out of ten from me.

I wouldn't call 60 euros extortionate.
120 euors for the Police is extortionate!

The Who gig was possibly one of the best gigs I have ever been too.
Both Daltrey and Townsend performed as if they were 20 years younger.
The whole show, sound, lighting, video screens and performances were well worth the 60 euros.
Katrina
Aye they nailed it. 60€ for The Who and The Cult was a bargain really, singalongtastic tunes, suitably loud (is it me or have Olympiahalle started to allow bands to play at proper loudness? Because Placebo for example were half the volume of PJ or The Who), great visuals, the drummer looked about 12 tho.

Zak Starkey - Son of Ringo Starr
He's in his early 40's !!
Katrina
Well he must use the same face cream as Johnny Marr! ph34r.gif
mothbola
Ha ha... funny you should say that...
He was one of the founding members of Johnny Marr and the Healers.

A huge smiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilllllllllllllle all night long ...The Cult were ace. The Who were incredible.

Would have liked to have heard 'Nirvana' and 'Revolution' as well 'Peace Dog' and cut or two from the Southern Death Cult days but hey 'Love Removal Machine' and 'She Sells Sanctuary' shut me up on that front ...I was there actually for The Who ..The Cult were just one BIG MAJOR bonus. Amusing though that their 5th member who looked like a guitar tech was bigger on the rock poses and looked more like he should have been hanging out with the Mods smile.gif

Now ...The Who ...simply TOP ENTERTAINMENT. An incredible amount of golden oldies were played ...I thought they'd play more off 'Endless Wire' ... and way too many highlights to bang on about but Pete with just himself and his guitar doing 'Love reign o'er me' ...true magic !!! Of course 'Baba O'Riley a close second ...great sound, great band and Daltrey swinging his mic around on great form biggrin.gif
berny
they didnt play love reign oer me. if they had, you would have seen me busting out from behind the stage, running up to pete and hugging him to death.

didnt get treated to the full volume version because i was looking after things backstage the whole night, but what i heard made me the happiest fucker in the world. talked to pete briefly afterwards, he gave me a plec. best work day EVER.

oh and on the volume subject - did yous notice the warnings they put up? basically it warned you that loud music was going to be played and the promotors would accept no responsibility for hearing damage if you chose to stay. if you decided within the first 15 minutes that it was too loud for you, you could leave and get your money back.
Crawlie
Only 60 Euros? I guess I was expecting the price levels to be the same as for the other has-beens out on the circuit right now.
sarabyrd
They aren't has-beens, they are still-ares. From what I read this was the event of the year.
acockreland2balls
@ Berny

Sorry dude ..you are correct, i was getting mixed up with the other Quadrophenia choon 'Drowned' ...or over fantasising more-like that they had played 'Love reign..' tongue.gif

The set-list according to this fansite was..

I Can't Explain, The Seeker, Substitute, Fragments, Who Are You, Behind Blue Eyes, Real Good Looking Boy, Baba O'Riley, Relay, Drowned, A Man In A Purple Dress, You Better You Bet, My Generation, Cry If You Want, Won't Get Fooled Again, The Kids Are Alright, Pinball Wizard, Amazing Journey, Sparks, See Me Feel Me, Tea And Theatre
Mr Stuart
I made the mistake of getting a seated ticket and ended up being the only person standing and dancing in a sea of white hair.

But never the less - truly amazing gig. The visuals were great, especially the clips from Quadraphenia. These 2 guys rock way more than any other "guitar" band I have seen ever. Highlight - Baba O'Riley. It could have been played a bit later in the set, but it really worked together with the visuals.

I've ordered my copy of the DVD already.
Boba
I shall be getting the DVD too. Was really a great show, only let down by the couple of new songs (do we need new stuff from a band that had their creative day so long ago?) that judging by the crowd no-one knew. Baba brought a tear to the eye, how good was that? Last of the biggies on my list to see...
BattalionBoy
Pete Townsend is a paedophile.

Update your info, honey, that page is from 2003

QUOTE
In 2003 he was cautioned by police for accessing a website alleged to advertise child pornography, which made international headlines. (Investigative journalist Duncan Campbell later stated in a Guardian article that Townshend was "falsely accused of accessing child pornography."[4])

Wiki Pete Townshend
And you stating it like that in a written medium can be done for libel.

You mean Moby Costello? Lovely to see Duffy pack out the classic Falcon. I've the gig videoed and once I've cut the songs properly I'll post 'em here. Savage concert, savage.

I decided to go as soon as I heard that The Cult were supporting. They were fantastic! smile.gif As for The Who, to be honest I was never a fan of theirs but they were absolutely brilliant. Probably the best gig I've ever been to!

Oh, and I bumped into Katrina wink.gif
