Where to buy

I wanted to make a cake for my daughters birthday using Fondant icing, however I can't find any liquid glucose and I don't know the German name for it. So I thought to buy it ready made, however all I find is Marzipan. Does any one know where I can get any of these items? Thanks
Katrina
Try a pharmacy - you want Glukose Sirup.
Backfun.de amongst others also sell such items.
Fondant and sugarpastes just aren't common here, I tend to bring fondant from the UK or use royal icing (Gylcerin = gylcerin also from the pharmacy) or buttercream instead.
White marzipan can also be coloured and used instead of fondant, but it is still marzipan, you either like it or you don't.
Good luck!

I tried this marshmallow fondant recipe with moderate sucess:

The only catch is finding Crisco in town. I brought some from the US, but I don't know where you could get that in Munich.

I will warn you, though, that you really have to knead this fondant as smooth as you can get it and really let it sit and relax, because if you work it too soon, it will tear up on you super easily.

Good luck & happy cake decorating! Hope you're daughter's cake goes well. rolleyes.gif

Hertie am Hbf has Crisco.

You're looking for : Glukosesirup and I'd recommend to ask in a nice and small "Konditorei" as they are using it for their cakes. I got some there and it was cheap. Don't forget to bring a container for the stuff.

I'm not sure if this is the same as fondant icing but I have a packet of "Fix & Fertig Zuckerguss" from Schwartau for icing cookies etc. Just open the packet and smooth over. The packet I have is too small for a whole cake and not sure if you can get bigger packets. I also have coloured zuckerguss pens for creating pretty patterns on cookies. If this is not exactly what you are looking for, I'd still look at what else Schwartau have to offer, as they have a few easy baking products.

edit: we bought these products from REWE, I believe.

I made this cake today for a little boy who loves aeroplanes, using home-made Fondant.

Marshmallow fondant is great to work with and tastes great.

I decorate cakes with both buttercream and fondant...do make contact for your child's next birthday.

I tried the same marshmallow fondant as in LaureenC's link and found it was really easy - no problems with tearing at all. Just give it enough time to dry. The stuff I used for it wasn't Glukosesirup but Glyzerin, which you can get from Apotheken.
