http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Google_censors_blogAccording to Wikinews, after a formal complaint from the New Zealand government, Google elected to remove posts relating to the New Zealand Department of Child, Youth and Family Services. The Blogger Team maintain that "some blog content may have allegedly breached their Blogspot terms of service".
Thoughts?

I am completely and utterly anti-censorship. But I think this line at the bottom of the wiki article:
QUOTE
New Zealand Police were called to investigate the blog for reasons that included the sharing of personal information, from which the blog could put employees of CYFS and their families at risk.
is fair enough grounds to have it removed

I wouldn't want to see my personal details in any blog, that info should be removed. As long as google doesn't start editing the posted facts I am ok with this "censorship". It's on par with referring to defendants in court trials by a false name or abbreviating their last names.

I'd agree, it's an invasion of privacy and in context essentially amounts to trial by internet. The implication on the action being a form of censorship is the real can of worms methinks.

Hence the "censorship" and my comparison. I think "edits blog" would have done as well.

Name-and-shame culture is so easy. The double standard is interesting though, a fair proportion of the posters are Anonymous, yet find absolutely no problem publishing personal details in the public domain. But there must be more to it than a bunch of disgruntled folk going on a web crusade against the NZDFYW - the devil'll be in the details.

The kiwis will be in a police state within a year.
