General discussion about: Blade Nightthe way it looks right now the blade night is gonna happen tonight.
It's the so-called Westroute again. It's relatively short (11km) but the plan is to do it twice like we did a few weeks ago, well some of us did (see below)
MEETING POINT FOR TT- I just wanted to suggest that we should maybe meet in Marsstrasse in front of the Circus Krone and not in front of the beergarden. advantage - We could start right away and wouldn't have to wait for the whole crowd to start.
Route
Wredestraße - Marsstraße - Arnulfstraße - Notburgastraße - Menzinger Straße - Wintrichring - Dachauer Straße - Nymphenburger Straße - Pappenheimstraße ‑‑‑ dann 2. Befahrung der gleichen Strecke
Beschreibung:

OK Johnny_who, let's post at exactly the same time.
Yes, you're right, it would be a better idea to meet where you said. 20:30 at Circus Krone, see you there.

So you did this route before? Are there downhill parts and lots of kerbs and stuff? I went practicing yesterday and am totally up for it, but maybe we should arrange to meet in the beer garden afterwards as well, so I don't hold you up!
I'll be skating with Karthik who is also a semi-beginner, and am not going to break my neck trying to keep up! So if any beginners want to come, let us know! We shall also meet at the Krone though, but at 19:30 I guess (does anyone know when the braking course is? I want to go to that to refresh first)

Looks like we have 2 groups tonight, the speedsters and the crapsters. So if you want to go fast meet at the Zirkus Krone at 20:30, and if you want to join us in the free braking course meet at 19:30...

don't know about the braking course - who organizes that?
not much downhill if I remember it right, it goes past Löwenbräukeller at Stiglmaierplatz it's a little downhill there. Apart from that you have to cross a few rails when we come across tram lines which isn't too hard either.

Jun 7 2004, 10:36 am
There are some tram tracks... the usual stuff. But the course is almost totally flat. There are no real big dropoffs or hills. There is one small downhill, just past the Nymphenburg canal bridge...but it's fairly gentle.

Unfortunately I am not going tonight. I still have to pack up in order to leave to Holland tomorrow.
Have fun!

Jun 7 2004, 10:58 am
OK, I shall strap a pillow to my arse and just go for it
I can't find anything about braking courses on the website, but I heard about it on the radio yesterday so it definately happens.
can you PM me you Mobile numbers to meet up? At least I know what Canuck looks like now, that'll help

hah..no not at all. My friend hired the Nike blades last time and one of his wheels fell off because they forgot to tighten them

and I thought I was lacking confidence! Imagine skating after that happened! I'd be too busy looking at the wheels, and hit a tree!

So is this it: beginners meet at Circus Krone at 7:30 & rest meet there at 8:30?

Now
that rocked. OK, so being cut up and skating into oncoming traffic was a bit more thrill than I normally expect on a monday night.
But wow, cool atmosphere, great weather, smooth roads, nice speed...
I won't go next week as it's the south route and this is apparently really hilly with long, steep slopes for my to break my / other peoples' neck(s) on...
If anyone fancies meeting up and skating somewhere else then joining the profis for beers afterwards, let me know

Jun 11 2004, 4:34 pm
I am up for it on Monday, it only depends on if my trains back to Munich are on time. If so and I'm not too tired from the trip from the-country-that's-going-to-win-next-tuesday, I'll be there!
PTDude
Jun 14 2004, 8:01 am
and it's that day of the week again

(with lovely weather too)
so who's up for tonight's blade night? tonight is the big 19 km "süd strecke", it goes trough:
Wredestraße - Marsstraße - Seidlstraße - Paul‑Heyse‑Unterführung - Paul‑Heyse‑Straße - Kaiser‑Ludwig‑Platz - Herzog‑Heinrich‑Straße - Lindwurmstraße - Pfeuferstraße - Plinganserstraße - Wolfratshauser Straße - Rupert‑Mayer‑Straße - Baierbrunner Straße - Gmunder Straße - Aidenbachstraße - Kistlerhofstraße - Drygalskiallee - Boschetsrieder Straße - Fürstenrieder Straße Ost - Ammerseestraße - Westendstraße - Elsenheimer Straße - Landsberger Straße - Grasserstraße - Hackerbrücke – Wredestraße
I know they say it's hard in the site but I'm sure it can't be that scary.
We can meet as usual at 20:30 in the front door of the Augustiner bier garten in arnulf strasse, then the speedies can take zircus krone strasse and go to the front and the lazy boys (like me) can go to the normal starting point.
cya there.

is anyone up for meeting at the english garden for a beginners' route away from the pro's?
Johnny_who?
Jun 14 2004, 8:31 am
I'm definitely gonna go.
@ PTDude 20:30 at Augustiner is better you think?
PTDude
Jun 14 2004, 8:46 am
@jooly I have the day free so if you want to practice a bit earlier, I'll join you. english garden or olympia park are cool for me.
@johnny it makes more sence for everyone to meet and then the ones who want to sprint can take the cirkus crone str and start from the front.
cya later.

Jun 14 2004, 11:55 am
I'm coming along. I'm happy to meet up at the top end at the beergarden again and zip around to the front, we would have had plenty of time to do that last week.

Anybody up for a pre-skate snack/dinner?
I will be having my pre-skate 'dinner' at this Vietnamese/Indian/Thai Bistro (called Han noi) on the corner of Augustenstr and Schellingstr in western Maxvorstadt. The food there is great and the prices are extremely CHEAP. And they have Augustiner beer for 2.50EUR and main dishes for 5-6EUR. You can blade there and you can eat in your blades since they have tables outside and the atmosphere is really informal...it is a Bistro. I've ate here about 30 times...and I recommend it highly. The amount of decent food you get for the money you pay, cannot be beaten in all of Munich!!
I'll probably be there around 7:45...PM me or call me if you're interested...

For those wanting to get together for Blade Night. I think its agreed that the meet up is at 8:30pm Augustiner Biergarten (entrance) in Arnulf Strasse.

Jun 14 2004, 3:49 pm
Exactly...the meetup at 8:30pm in front of the beergarten will still happen, but for those who want a snack beforehand can me at Han Noi and then we can blade over to the beergarten after the snack...and meetup at the desired 8:30.

"Due to the bad weather'" was the official excuse why the bladenight didn't happen yesterday. Although I enjoyed my evening driving with my scooter to a cafe and sit outside.

anyways, I'm thinking about setting up a training session for newbies, probably on sunday (depends if my back are operational again, and the weather is good) is anybody up for it? then we can all join blade night on monday
Take care,

Okie dokie, it's monday again, and the
Blade night website says it will for sure take place.

as usual we can meet at the door of the augustiner biergarden (arnulfstr) at 20:30.

PTDude,
How hard is this route? Is it really hilly? I'm debating whether or not to wear a helmet tonight - normally, I only wear my wrist guards(need my wrists working so I can type on TTMunich - and to work, of course). I'm thinking full armor tonight if it has a lot of downhills.
PTDude
Jun 28 2004, 1:29 pm
the route has about 2 or 3 downhills wich I don't find hard and the blade guards will be making sure everyone goes slowly (much to my disapointment) so if your skate level is medium like mine you'll be perfect with just the wristguards, I also recomend some knee pads in case you don't want to go and buy new pants or in my case (if I have a couple more accidents, new knees)

I should be there..although the weather looks like it might not hold out.

I'll be there tonite, but it all depends on the weather.
@Allen - are you gonna come?
kitkat64
Jun 28 2004, 2:06 pm
It's too hot and muggy for pants. Pair 'o shorts with my knee pads will do it.

Jul 3 2004, 7:24 pm
Is it on for the 5th, what if I'm not so hot yet on the in-lines, will the type of route be difficult? Or should I go and practice before attempting this?

Jul 3 2004, 7:29 pm
They always decide on the day itself around 14:00 if it's taking place or not.
On the 5th the West route is on, which is the short route you can skate twice. On the website it says "Für Anfänger ist diese Strecke nicht geeignet", which basically means that it's not suitable for beginners.
I should be there next Monday again...who else?
Lisa E
Jul 4 2004, 9:02 pm
well i think all the courses say "not for beginners". i did (most of) the west one & i am a beginner & there is nothing tricky about it, it's the crowd of people that is the main challenge.
can't make it this time but will try to go the next time it's the short course.
have fun!

Jul 5 2004, 11:22 am

JoolyBooly
Jul 5 2004, 2:39 pm
why on earth not? they're sooo sensitive about the weather.
My hangover is stopping me anyway, but we could do a beginners' run the week after next with or without the thingy, maybe english garden...
I'm on holiday next week but after that I'm up for it
sparty
Jul 18 2004, 11:06 am
According to the predictions of wetter.de it's going to rain tomorrow, but the forecasts weren't that accurate the past weeks. They have to decide tomorrow at 14:00 if it takes place or not. The past two weeks it was rainy at that time, but in the evening it was beutiful weather. Let's hope for the best this time

So who is going to Blade Night tomorrow? If it'll take place, I'll be there +1.
