Setting up a phone with a T-DSL connection

Tips on getting the telephone to work

I had given in on setting up my T Com phone however I need to make some calls now so it would be useful if I could get it working.

I bought the DSL package from T Com several months ago which includes a internet connection and the possiblity of making phone calls. As things stand I have a router, splitter and a T Com phone but have yet to work out how to work the phone.

Internet works fine and the ethernet cable from my computer plugs into the router which connects to the splitter which connects to the telephone wall socket.

I'm lost as to where the phone fits into all of this (there is an instruction manual which touches on it but it is in German).

The Phone has a power supply and a cable with a phone connection on one end.

It seems there are three place to plug the phone in. One is the router itself (which has two connection on the base), another is the splitter (which has two spare connections) and the final one is the phone socket outlet itself.

I have tried most of these combinations but can't really tell if they are working or not (is there a number like the speaking clock I could attempt to dial?).

The router is a speedport W 500 V and the phone is a Sinus 100.

If you have VOIP then the phone plugs into the router. If you have now signed up for VOIP, then the phone gets plugged into the Splitter (If Analog) or into the ISDN NTBA (If ISDN), as for using the phone.. Well, that should explain itself.. wink.gif

That dosent make any sense at all...

If you have VIOP, then the phone must plug into the router! (There are exceptions to this if EG, Router at one place and its set up for call forwarding to a specified number.

Look at the Handbook...

There are pretty pictures of how to connect it!
Then it needs configuring, (all German I am affraid) Maybe the chaps at Eventful-communications can help! wink.gif

And you must be talking about the OP, cause thats what I said...

Simplest thing is to plug the phone cord into the centre socket of the splitter and the power unit into a mains socket. If you get a dial tone then the phone line is almost certainly live. Try calling a friend, or have someone call you.

If that's successful you can get clever and connect the router to the phone socket using the cable supplied, and the phone to the back of the router:

You only really need this if you plan to use VoIP services

I'm guessing I'm not getting a dial tone as the phone doesn't appear to work when connected to the splitter (the phone dials but nothing is heard through the handset).

Is there anything easy I could do to fix this? The phone line should be working as I am able to use it for DSL internet.

The phone line should be working as I am able to use it for DSL internet.

That doesn't necessarily follow. In simple terms the phone and the DSL service are merged at the exchange onto a single line. At your splitter they are divided again into separate services. If the phone service is not merged onto the line in the first place then you can have DSL and no phone.
Firstly, try the phone directly in the phone outlet (by removing the splitter plug) to eliminate a possible splitter fault, and of course try the phone on someone else's connection to check the phone. If none of that works have the line checked.
