Preparation for Gymnasium entrance exams

Guys,

I have heard that as it is now the run up to when kids in 4th Klasse get put into Gymnasium / Realschule etc, kids are being sent to tutors for extra support to get then through the Gymnasium Exam (Probeuntericht).

Has any of you used these tutors and if you have, has this help really got your child through the exam ? any recommendations ?

No personal experience, but you may be able to find a cheap tutor by finding a student of Gymnasium Oberstufe. Maybe ask a teacher at the Gymnasium if they have any good students who would like to tutor.
That is how I once got to tutor a girl in English for a while (my teacher asked me if I would want to).
