Hi,
I´m looking for a running club in Munich that caters for medium-long distance runners with regular training meetings. I would also like to be in a club that a part of training consists of Fartlac training, hill training etc...If any one has ideas I would be exceptionally greatful! smile.gif

Hi there

Try the Munich Road Runner Club - MRRC for a local running club. I have a pal who runs every week with them. In the winter they run in the OlympiaPark, and in the summer it's Nymphenburger park.

That said, I like to run on my own so am not a member of any running association ... but I have been known to run for Team Toytown. The Ismaning half marathon is on Sunday - but we've already done the 12 and 17k runs

You probably checked already ... but Zee kindly put together this list of runs in the Munich locality during 2007

And I see you already added running to your interests ... so that's a good start.

I'd just PM other running buddies ... gauge peoples interest in the runs you plan to take part in and go for it ... smile.gif

What's the advantage of being in a running club?

Peer pressure and somebody to moan to.

you'll get access to tracks for speed training
have experienced trainers to coach (torture) you
and lots of running mates :-)

I guess the advantages of been in a running club are
1) They´re usually professional level I-III coaches specialised in short-long distances that can help with technique, flexibility, programs and good training methods and combination for effective running results.
2) You meet people regularly and motivate each other (not for every body though)
3) You have the option to go in compertitions so that you can consistenly beat your own PB

It´s up to the individual really.

Hi there,

I only just moved to Munich and was wondering whether anyone could recommend some decent running clubs (long distance, not track running).
At the moment living in Pasing, but planning to move to the centre shortly, so maybe a club that trains in English Garden or Nymphenburg park?

Do any of the Toytown Members meet regularly to run?

Also, can anyone tell me whether there is anything similar to British Military Fitness (I think Bootcamp in the US and OZ) here in Munich. I used to do it in London and loved it.

Thanks for your replies,

Monika

There are a bunch of threads about people looking for running partners, try searching the forum. I was about to get into it this spring until I injured my knee, but perhaps in a month or so I'll be up for it again.

Doesn't sound like you are looking for Hash House Harriers kind of running, but that's another option if you want a social club that runs a bit.

There is an interesting link from DickyD in that second link there that one51 provided.

Also you might want to find your nearest Runners Point store (at least one in the Riem Arkaden as well as the pep shopping center). This store usually has a LITTLE more than just teenagers looking for the latest AirTrendy. I've seen that in the past (and probably now as well), they've had fliers listing times and places of group training runs of different paces. Might be worth a look-see if you can get past the enthusiastic sales-people who just can't wait to get you on the treadmill...

Anyway, good luck.

Hi, thanks for all your replies. I only just saw them and will def. check out all possibilities. Away the next 2 weekends and busy with job/roomhunt, but then may contact some of the people on the forum.
And re your question about being in a running club (never been member of one by the way)
a) I only just moved to Munich and don´t know hardly anyone, so I am taking each opportunity to meet likeminded people I can train and socialize with. (I will also contact the people on towtown and go to their events)
b) It motivates me to run with other people, plus I also want to improve my speed and stamina again (aiming to do another marathon in autumn, so far I trained on my own, which gets a bit boring after a while...)

Thanks again,

Monika

What kind of a club did you want to run. ?

I am just looking for a club that meets about once or twice during the week (eve) for medium long runs and maybe some speed work and does longer runs at WEnds or takes part in competitions (10k, half marathon, marathon, etc). I guess the typical British format of a running club.
I guess I first need to see where I will be living (only subletting at the moment) and then see whether any club is near. Otherwise try and meet runners through the forum.
Munich Roadrunners looks good.

Cheers,

Monika

Hello Runners,

I am not new to Germany - but am fairly new to Toytown and the whole posting thing. I am looking for a running group in FFB (or Munich) when there is one there. Can anyone give me some info on running groups? For example, a group that runs together on the weekend. I am in FFB on the weekends and would like to meet up with others every once in a while for a long run - not to mention chat with some other English speakers wink.gif
I would greatly appreciate any info.

Thanks!

Join the Hash peeps. They run and drink and chat. What more could you want? Now if they were swimmers, then I would join. Running is bad for your health. wink.gif
