Who out there uses the refill kits for ink jet printers?

What personal experiences have you had?
Zeppelin
ive never used the refill kits, but when in Regensburg, i used a refill service there.

10E instead of 20E for a new cartridge, whatsmore, the refill contained a LOT more ink than the original.

However, note that any cartridge can only be refilled 3 or 4 times before the head gets screwy.

on the topic, does anyone know of refill services in Munich? where they are?

I have used the refills myself on my old printer. Am just doing a little "research" as to if anyone has had problems with doing this. I am getting a new printer (Canon Pixma MP180) and was just curious of others experiences.

I always got my refill kits from the place on Schellingstr (Tankstation or something like that) (corner of Barerstr or there abouts). I agree on price and am all for using the refills, but again, just curious if anyone has had problems. I have also bought the refill kit at a shop on Augustenstr (just near corner of Briennerstr). Am sure there are plenty of others around as well.

I used to refill cartridges and never had any problems except that it's a very messy and fiddly process. Now I just get them refilled at a refill place ("Tinten-Tankstelle"), of which there are two even here so there must be loads in Munich. Couldn't find a website though.

I think the name STB gave is the name of the first shop I mentioned above. Also, I have this weblink for second shop I mentioned above TTTankstation

The black cartridge was fine, but the refilled colour cartridge I got was lousy. Lost some colours very early. I wouldn't use it again.

I bought a Cartridge Refill kit from Kaufring am Ostbahnhof for 10€ about two weeks ago. It contained 5 Black ink bottles, 1 of each of the other Colour ink bottles and 2 Cleaning Solution bottles (total 10 bottles). The instructions also came in English and I found them easy to follow.
There might be one drawback and that is certain cartridges, like Epson, contain a chip in the cartridge that monitors the ink in the cartridge. This chip does not recognise that a cartridge has been refilled and so the additional purchase of an Epson Chip Resetter is necessary for the printer to use the refilled cartridge.
In addition, they recommend a 24 hour rest period upon refilling the cartridge to allow time for the ink to stabilize.

From the "other" thread: Some chips also have date information on, and this led to part-full cartidges not working too. In any event, it was passable with chip resetters like this one for Epson chip reset. (also mentioned by Ozzie above, (not downunder))

I used to work for a printer company, so I do know a little bit about these refill kits.

For an HP or a Lexmark printer, you should suck it up and buy the new cartridges. Because there is a new print "head" on each cartridge, refilling would just cause the head to wear down and produce sloppy and messy work.

For an Epson or a Canon, the printer heads are attached to the printer, so refilling is OK with these brands. That's why they go through such a long starting process; the printer is cleaning those heads.

Hope that helps!

As I mentioned I have a company that sells refills in the UK. But personally I tried them once and I think they suck compared to the original.

Conrad does a fair selection of refill kits, and there are dedicated ones for each of the main printer manufacturers. Prices were about €15 for the smaller kits (with 30ml of each colour ink), but for about €3 more you could get a set with much larger ink bottles. Of course, after the first set you only need the ink itself and not the syringe etc, and so it might be possible to source bulk ink if you really want to go for it.

I bought a Canon kit, which had comprehensive instructions (in English) for a wide selection of Canon cartridges. The procedure was fiddly, but not as messy as I had expected. The only negative was that the drill supplied with the kit (for enlarging the breather holes so that the syringe needle could get in) was pretty blunt. However, that is only needed for the first filling and from now on it should take 5 mins to refill the cartridges.

The good news is that the colour cartridge worked perfectly straight away. The black is a problem, but that might be my fault. I had not used the printer for the best part of a year and so I think that the print head is clogged with old, dry, ink. The printer produces acceptable results when set to the highest quality setting and I am hoping that everything will sort itself out with time. Does anybody know if the cartridge flush fluid will help?

I suggest Drucker Tankstelle (www.mvcd-tinte.de). I am not sure of the specifics of refilling, but this guy has all the know how. I buy cartridges for my printer for 2 euro each (normally they cost 14 euro). He is very helpful and just moved to a new location late last year. He is now on Blumenstr. near the Vikt. Markt.

There is a cartridge refill shop now situated opposite the entrance to the Schrannenhalle, on Frauenhöferstr in Munich, they are the same people who were previously based at the 24hr Internet cafe on the Tal.

it is the same guy I linked to above the last post before this.

Maybe someone can help again - I'm thinking of buying a printer, and so far the HP Office Deskjet 1200D seems to be ideal for what I need, however I came across this on Amazon.de where a user complains about the print cartridges and heads having an exipration date set into them, where the printer takes the date from the computer issuing the request. Change the date on the computer and it works again.

QUOTE

The printer has separate colour ink cartridges and print heads for each colour and the thought of having to replace the whole lot after some arbitrary time, full & functioning regardless, makes me a tad mad. This isn't a cheapo throw away printer, is this sort of rubbish normal? While I know my way around computers and electronics and could work around this sort of shit I don't see why I should - pay a lot of money for a quality printer and get forced to shell out more for no good reason? My arse mad.gif

Well for the same money I think you could get a DELL 1320C personal colour laser (£99 on the website). Should be a much better cost per page. I have one here in the office and also a DELL 3110CN and the old inkjet just gathers dust.

Get this - £99 on the UK site and €249 on the dell.de site. Screwy.
