Hello,
I know there are a few threads about Regensburg in general. I've read thru them but could not find any info on which areas are best to look for an apartment/house.
I know the Altstadt is wonderful but if you can't afford that , where would you live?(maybe still be close enough to Altstadt w good kindergardens , schools , some shops etc) ..and are there any areas to avoid?
This is for a family with 3 young kids btw.
thanks

anything off landshuterstrasse is pretty cool and near enough to the city centre. however only up to a certain point. I lived on Prinz-Rupprecht-Str and I wouldn't recomend that. However there are some really nice areas closer into the town. The Winzard would be nice to live in but I don't know how it is for kindergartens.

All man I just noticed this. I will post some recommendations Monday since I live in Regensburg.
FYI: If you are going to check it out like on a scouting tour I recommend Kona Kaffee house. They have a smoke free room with childrens toys in it. Unless you really are not a mom of two. Yet you can still go in and play with the toys I guess.

Hello! I am new to this!
Moving with Hubby to Regensburg in May 2008.
Can anyone put me in touch with an lettings agent? I am looking for a apartment close as possible to the city centre, maybe 90-120m2... Anyone have any idea of prices?
Please???

This should send you in the right direction. Just remember that the agents that work 'finding' you an apartment get paid, normally 2 cold months rent or more. Also the local paper is good, the
Mittelbayrische. The link takes you to the correct section of the paper, but it's not hard to find.
You should do some research on the forum about the oddities of renting and finding a place to rent in
Germany.

Thanks Iain! Great. Looks like I should be able to find something...
It is a minefield out there for us at the moment... Our move to the UK was altogether much easier as we did not have a baby or furnichure! Just married! Now, 5 year later we are a lot more ... lets just say not wet behind the ears anymore...
Any advice is always welcome... PLEASE!!!

ok, now it's serious and we are looking at houses in
Regensburg.
Now can anyone tell me what they think about certain districts?
So, I am looking at some places in Burgweinting-Harting.
Houses look gorgeous but what do you think about that area??I am not sure about it.?
And there is the Ostenviertel, Westenviertel, Konradsiedlung in
Wutzlhofen, Brandlber-Keilberg, Kumpfmuhl etc.
Any opinions and advice is appreciated, thanks
Edit:
This is for a family with 3 young kids (so school and kindergardens are the most important criteria) and
we will be commuting to the altstadt to work..
thanks

Hi.
How well do you know Regensburg? I have found a place in the Old City. We are moving in about 5 weeks. There were a few very nice options for us, but we wanted to be in the old city.

We live in Bad Abbach which is about 15km South of Regensburg. It's part of a dormitory belt for a lot of University people. It's on the Danube and 10 minutes into town, easy access to the Autobahn. For us it's good because it means we don't spend money everytime we go out. And is of course cheaper housing wise. Kindergartens, Schools, and shopping centres. Swimming pool. If we can help Pm me

Well, the place is quite close to the cathedral. Very old building. We are having a 4 room place for around 9Euros per m2.

Hi! We just got here. Regensburg city is lovely. We live in the old city in an old building. We pay around 1100 euros for 110 square metres. Not a lot of cars in the city, mostly bicycles and pedestrians.
When are you moving?
Here are two places that helped me a lot. Remember, you will look for the amount of rooms (living & bedrooms in total).

Burgweinting-Harting is nice, but I've heard from a friend who lives there that it's a little Stepford Wives-y. And most everyone works at BMW or Continental. Because it's so convenient to those two locations, the prices are higher than other neighborhoods.
When we looked at housing in Burgweinting, Germans at the Uni kept telling us to forget it since that's where the foreigners live. I said great! Since I'm foreigner, I'll fit in perfectly. But we ended up in Laaber, which is about 25km outside of town. There's a train station, the rents are super cheap (we pay 400€ for 100m2), the village is nice (there are castle ruins), it's close to the Autobahn and the Pralinenfabrik (always a bonus), and the people are really friendly.
As for schools, I don't know too much, since our guy is still too young to go, but I've heard that the Gymnasium in Parsberg is better than the one in Regensburg, so living along the train line between Regensburg and Parsberg might also be something to think about (Sinzing/Nittendorf/Laaber/Beratzhausen) for anyone looking to stay long term or with teenagers.

Thank you guys for the replies.
I still not sure where to live but I will be using the web links and hopefully I will find somewhere suitable.
Is there anything that I should be aware when looking for a place in the website? such as why sometimes there are two prices for the accommodation eg 900 and then 1200 for the same flat, is there some kind of tax, or extra fees? every month?. In Australia we do not rent flats have per m2 so it is hard to understand how small or big a place is, what is suitable for 2 adults? Also we would like to have spare room for visitors.
Is there much of a nightlife?
Thanks again
