I'm looking forward to the beer more than the curry - have been 100% disappointed by German curries so far. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong ...

I've been quite impressed with this place, although they could do with being a bit more heavy handed with the spices. Depending what you normally have in the UK might be worth the risk of trading up from for example a British medium to a German hot.
When we have indian for lunch in the place underneath the office I need to get a vindaloo, now there's no way on this earth I'd be ordering that in Brick Lane. Just have to adapt to German (lack of) spicing I guess.

This time we will be returning to a restaurant called Indigo, location of my first ever Frankfurt
curry night.
It is located between Willy-Brand-Platz and Frankfurt
Hbf just off the Kaiserstrasse near the original silver Dresdner Bank skyscraper.
Due to the sleazy nature of the area you may find it more convenient to arrive via the U-bahn at Willy Brandt Platz, or PM me and we can meet up at Starbucks in the Hbf around 19:45
Check back here on the day of the event in case of a change of location and please only sign up if you intend to coming along, too many no shows last time

Best,

Option B seems quite a good strategy

but being serious from now on, I normally call to confirm the reservation on a Tuesday lunchtime. So I'll either make a further post with the fictitious name it's reserved under or send you a PM.
At Indigo it is usual for us to have a large table which will be on your right hand side as you enter the restaurant.

Hello curry lovers,
This time we plan to visit
Taj Taj.
Definately an upmarket establishment and the prices reflect this at around 20 Eur for a Main dish, but I'm informed that the food speaks for itself and when this and restaurant enviroment are taken into consideration it's worth the premium.
Hope to see you there!

Went there last week with work. Girl from work ordered the Vindaloo which I thought would blow her head off but she said it wasnt that hot. I was asked if I wanted my curry "scharf?" and it was still fairly mild so bear that in mind.
Everyone was impressed though but I thought the starters were a bit on the small side!

Well it does look nice. But I'd need a recommendation and a good one at that to go to a place that was 20€ a dish. Ok it is not really expensive but I'd like to know the food is good before spending that much. But I'll be there next time we go to the Banjara
frizzyjen
Sep 28 2007, 9:34 am
Banjara is still shut at the moment and didn't look like there were any immediate plans for it to reopen...
As for this place this week, I went there last week and must admit the food was good. Would say that the staff and service was excellent and they are more than happy to 'spice it up a bit' if the food's not hot enough for you. The meat and ingredients were very fresh and to be honest I would say you could taste that it was a better quality of meat. Plus the decor was very nice and the chairs super comfy!

20 Euros is the norm at restaurants which offer quality food. It is not expensive considering the quality of the food you get.
My experience has been that if the curry is not hot enough, you can ask them when you order and they will bring you the real good (and hot) stuff.

Yes that is true. I guess it depends on which way you look at things. To me going to
curry night is not necessarily for nice food that is just an aside I'd go to catch up with friends or meet new people.
Quality food I'd rather just enjoy with good friends or on a special night with my boyfriend for example.

When you come from the North of England 20 Euro is an awful lot for a curry (maybe that is London pricing levels!). At a top quality Indian restaurant back home in Yorkshire I would not expect to pay more than 15-60 Euros for a main dish include rice/chapati/naan. At a standard Indian I would pay significantly less (and the food is good!). Restaurant prices are generally more reasonable here but Indians seem to be the exception to the rule - probably cos the competition is not as great as it is in Bradford !

End of the day, it's a new place to try, that we've not been before. Yes it's a bit more expensive than the norm but it's a one-off try.. and tobe perfectly honest the prices aren't THAT far removed from those of Indigo for example, which is just round the corner.

Good God! Bitch city on here today...are we all pre-menstrual?! It's a
curry night... organised to celebrate the British tradition of 'stuffing your face with a loada good food and beer' and an opportunity to meet new people in Frankfurt and have a break away from the Germanisms of everyday life in this country!
EDIT: and there's nothing to specify that it can't be a bit of an upmarket restaurant for a change...

No and I never said there was. I just decided to mention it that was all because in my many years experience of organising expat events the more expensive places don't always cater for everyones pockets. That was the only reason I commented on it.
