I’d like to come along as well, please.
@ Purple Muffin and Orable: As Banjara is just around the corner from my house, I could pop by after work tonight and ask for the reservation to be extended

Aug 6 2007, 11:30 am
I just sent you a PM! the problem more than anything is there is just not enough space there. Will see what I can do!
Purple Muffin
Aug 6 2007, 12:33 pm
Ok well I just tried to ring them about the booking and they are closed today due to sickness according to their answer machine!
I will try and ring them tomorrow to see what the score is.

Aug 6 2007, 12:50 pm
I don't think he does lunch anymore, anytime I've tried to get a colleague to ring on my behalf it's just an answer phone or fax machine. That's why I took to reserving in person the week before. (oh yeah, and crappy language skills too)
I'm at Manchester airport for the next hour... back online in Germany in around 18:00. PM me if I can be of any help.
Purple Muffin
Aug 6 2007, 1:15 pm
Yes I thought they only closed for lunchtimes during July though. I am just concerned as the message was that they were closed all day due to illness. I'll try them again this evening but imagine they'll still be closed.

Hi folks,
Well some of you already know that family circumstances beyond my control brought me back to Wales last night.
I was not able to get through to increase the reservation. Sorry about that.
I will keep my reservation as it is so that original 2 (caroline & frank) can have my spaces and then the other 2 can go to Evanna and Cerise.
Little Britain I am sure they can squeeze you in.
Truly gutted I am missing the Banjara so I think we should make a return trip there again VERY soon...
frizzyjen
Aug 7 2007, 11:07 am
Sorry to hear that you won't make it... but with the other spaces you've reserved, weren't there people who posted on the thread before some of those you mentioned? I think it would only be fair to allocate them on a first com first served basis?
Purple Muffin
Aug 7 2007, 11:29 am
Yes I agree and that is what I have done. Cerise and Evanna were the first to ask for spaces. Also Caroline contacted me just after the sheet went up and was full. So I think it is being done fairly.
Anyway I am sure it will not be a problem if extra people turn up.
Purple Muffin
Aug 7 2007, 11:38 am
Sorry perhaps my last post was not explained properly. My original reservation was for Myself and my boyfriend and the Caroline and Frank were the otrher 2 guests.
So all that has changed is that instead of my and my boyfriend coming Evanna and Cerise (who were the first to ask about spaces so are first come first served) are taking our places.
Nothing unfair, no favouritism and everybody being sorted on a first come first served basis!
As I said though I am sure there may be people who cannot make it so the other 3 (LB, faskally and newfounlander) could just turn up. That or maybe a kind curry nighter could try and extend the reservation by 3.
frizzyjen
Aug 7 2007, 12:03 pm
Orable/purple muffin :- du want me to give them a call this afternoon to see if we can extend it by a couple more people? Noticed there are the 3 people mentioned above plus Stigga and maybe Little Britain who wanted to come along.
Can try later if you want? Either that or we just all turn up and see what happens
Orable
Aug 7 2007, 12:06 pm
OK, so we're all sorted and happy

If you have previously asked but aren't on the sign-up and still want to come (LB, Faskally & Newfoundlander) I'm sure we will find room for you.
We can't seat any more than those though, so we need to consider this event as full. However, I promise that
curry night will return to Banjara and have pencilled in 5th September for our next visit.

Faskally, who lives close to Banjara said she would have a look tonight to see if there was any change in the situation.
Back up plan will most likely be the India palace on Darmstädter Landstr; also just a short walk from Lokalbahnhof / Banjara. If the last time we were there is anything to go by they should be able to find room for us. Food was pretty good too. However, it's still Banjara until you hear otherwise.

Aug 7 2007, 6:46 pm
Banjara situation’s not looking too good! Just walked past the restaurant and they still have a notice up saying they’re closed due to illness. No indication of when they're likely to re-open.
Think we'll unfortunately need to go with the back-up plan...
frizzyjen
Aug 8 2007, 8:46 am
Shall we just all meet there at 7.45ish anyway and then see...?
Orable do you need to reserve the back up plan restaurant?

Aug 8 2007, 8:53 am
I'm afraid that I can't make this after all. I went to the doctors yesterday and they had to puncture my knee to remove lots of fluid, and I've been in an extreme amount of pain for the last 24 hours! The pain killers are kicking in now, but I can't walk without the help of crutches for a while.
So the Banjara eludes me yet again!

But judging from the last posts, it may be eluding everyone anyway!
Hope to attend the next curry evening, and hope its the Banjara! Have fun.
@Orable, thanks for securing my space, pls reallocate, thanks again. Cheers

Oh no not 5th September please certain people cannot make it! Greetings all from Wales.
Hmmm that is a bit of a pain on the Banjara front. A backup plan could be to head to the India Palace if Banjara is actually still closed. Only a few minutes walk away. Have a good night anyway. I am about to go back to the hospital.

Turning up only to find the doors to the Banjara firmly shut? If that happens, some TTers might be forgiven for experiencing an unsettling sense of déjà vu.

Aug 8 2007, 9:35 am
OK, so here's the updated plan:
I'm going to head into the city early and check whether Banjara is still closed.
Sometime between 18:00 and 18:30 Faskally will post that either Banjara is open or we resort to the back up plan of the India Palace.

Just another quick note on the whole tonight thing... if we manage to get into Banjara (if thy're not all still ill) or if we go to the other place, can we try and book for approx. 15 as thats the number of folkies that seem to be signed up , if not on the sheet then in the thread as well. T
That way everyone can come along and no lapsittin necessary unless you're that way inclined!
Orable
Aug 8 2007, 2:17 pm
Banjara won't be open until 18:00 at the earliest if at all

and we can't book a table at the India Palace (plan 'B') until we know whether our cunning plan 'A' is in tatters... is there anywhere I can go to buy lucky white heather online? No seriously, I'm sure that everything will work out just fine and there will be space for everyone who's said they want to come along.

Of course everything will work out fine...it always comes out in the wash and what's important is not where we are but that we're together

Restaurants tend not to magically open fully ready though, so if Banjara'll be welcoming any business today, you can expect staff to have turned up much earlier than the official 6pm opening time to get everything ready. Which hopefully involves taking the illness notice off the front door.

Presumably, plan 'B' didn't just materialise out of thin air. Surely, a couple of the considerations that would have gone into it would have included that, first of all, geographically, it pretty much only involves turning right out of Lokalbahnhof instead of left (and these days, I only ever seem to be invited to turn right), and also, that it's actually large enough and usually quiet enough to accommodate the TT-curry night crowd even without a prior reservation.

Can someone sum up what's going on tonight and where I need to show up. Also, as flexible as I usually am, given the weather, not sure I want to be hearded around looking for someplace that can fit us all in...
Orable
Aug 8 2007, 3:15 pm
Plan 'A' we go to Banjara, near Lokalbahnhof. Unfortunately banjara has been closed for the last few days due to staff being off sick. A most kind TTer who lives round that way will go to banjara when they are due open at 18:00 and see if they are open or not. There will be a post here by 18:30 with an update.
Plan 'B' Banjara is closed and we go to the India Palace, also only a short walk away from lokalbahnhof. Hopefully they will be able to accomodate us based on TTer's experiences of visiting this place, it's large and usually half empty.
