KVR employee does no work

So now we know why the KVR is such a shambles.

Today's Abendzeitung reports that an employee (named only as Karl P) has been caught downloading over 3000 porn sites at work. Not particularly newsworthy, you would think, except that it was also discovered that he had failed to process over 2000 traffic violations. This cost the city in the region of €27,000.

Apparently he also had a habit of drinking 4 litres of beer during a normal workday, (standard for München, huh?), came late, and used the printer to print most of the porn he downloaded.

All in all, a sackable offence, one would think.

But the sting in the tail is this:

"Karl P redete sie gestern in gewissen, jetzt Einsatzwillen und Initiative zu beweisen. 'Das ist Ihre letze Chance, wenn Sie ihre Arbeit behalten wollen.'"

So in other words, they have given him another chance!

According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung the case has not yet been decided, the court has ordered a psychologial expertise to see just how depressive and alcoholic this guy is.


He is 40 years old, still lives with his mother, average alcohol intake was 8 Halbe (=4 liters) per day. Christ, if drug intake were a reason for being sacked half of TT would be on Hartz IV by now. But the guy is doing a therapy, taking perscription drugs, going to work regularly and trying to turn into a valuable member of society.
Dunno what happened to all the tickets he stashed in his desk, though.
Moral dilemma: Is it a good thing for society that this guy did not follow up on the trespassors' misdemeanors? After all, they only got away with breaking the law by his doing the same (Strafvereitelung, §258 Strafgesetzbuch) so they are basically benefitting from a crime.

Pretty much par for the course for a german Beamte, oder?

@ Sarabyrd - if every man with a partiality to beer and porn had to see a therapist, I think we would have a bit of crisis on our hands

2 - 3 pints 2 - 3 times a week and ogling Dirndl decolletées at the Wiesn is partiality. 8 beers a day 7 days a week and 3000-odd pages of S&M porn is sick.

Funny I just saw a headline today in one of the local papers saying "Beamte werden nach Leistung bezahlt" or something similar. In which case not many employees of the KVR/Arbeitsamt etc would get paid (that would also apply to quite a few colleagues where I work too)!
