The Smashing Pumpkins have made their first official announcement of an appearance in 2007. The band will headline both the Rock am Ring (2.Jun.2007) and Rock im Park (3.Jun.2007) music festivals in Germany.

These will be the band's first appearances since they played their final concert in December 2000 at The Metro, the same Chicago club where their career had effectively started twelve years earlier.

The band's MySpace page has indicated that more European festival appearances may be announced.

Tickets are available via tickets-per-post.de beginning on Saturday, January 27, 2007. Check out the Rock am Ring festival website for more information.

For the benefit of anyone who doesn't already know, The Smashing Pumpkins are a popular American alternative rock band that formed in Chicago in 1988. Their 1995 double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and sold more than 25 million copies worldwide by 2000.

I guess... at the end of the day they're just a band though. And the lead singer bugs me because he's whiney and neurotic and kinda spooky looking, but other than that they're ok.

"Cherub Rock" is one of the absolute best rock songs of the 90's, and probably ever. God I love that song. I'm going to the show - and if they don't play it I'm going to be really, really, slightly bummed.

you know, there's a chat thing on their myspace and i'm sure if you begged enough, they'd hear you and maybe play it - there are sooo many amazing songs but my all time OMFG song is stand inside your love... WHOA insane!

Great band, will definitely go. Used to be my favourite band before I discovered S.O.A.D.

Great stuff, used love them back in the day. They played in Terminal 1 (sadly defunct) in Riem here in 1993 on the Siamese Dream tour with The Verve as openers - best gig of my life up until then. Jimmy Chamberlain was off his head on something and couldn't get the drum intro for "I Am One" going. Corgan freaked out, calling him a retard onstage. Great gig though.
Uncle Jamal
One of the best bands ever.

saw them on their last tour here in Muenchen, was around the time of Oktoberfest and Corgan said they were all a bit drunk, except Jimmy who was and still is clean and sober. Had seats behind the stage but it was so cool to be able to watch the band with an unobstructive view and to see the crowd at the same time, that was really cool. I am not the biggest fan, but I do like the music very much. Question to anyone in the know...Is D'arcy back or is Melissa coming back on the road with them? I love D'arcy!!

I think I will NEED tickets...

My German ain't so sweet, so can somebody please tell me where the f this is? And does anybody else think that this is a fairly odd lineup? Not that I mind, as I certainly will most assuredly never profess to being either a Slayer or Linkin Park fan, but what is DMB doing stuck in there?

A little truth in advertising is in order here. At this point in time, the only original members of the Pumpkins who are participating in this reunion are Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain. There has been no mention of James Iha or D'Arcy Wretzky participating in this. Melissa Auf der Maur may be filling in for D'Arcy again as she did back in 2000.

That may be good enough for a lot of people as Corgan's vocals/guitar/frontman skills and Chamberlain's driving drums are signature parts of the Pumpkins sound. However, when I first heard this news, I was assuming it was a full band reunion which is apparently not true. It's a bit disappointing but I'm still glad to see this Chicago band live on...I just wish Iha were a part of it.

The very first show of the remade Pumpkins has been announced for May 22 in Paris. Still no word of other band members besides Corgan and Chamberlain.
