German air traffic control strike averted, for now

Hi guys!

Looks like the impending strike of air traffic control has been averted. I just received an official e-mail from the union telling me that an agreement has been reached during arbitration, but both sides have agreed to keep the silence until February 1st. Apparently, both union and company need to review what they've just agreed upon... figure that one out. blink.gif

Anyhow, flights are no longer in danger of being delayed or cancelled because of us, I suppose.

We can't do much about the weather though.

Sky news has just reported that 1,300 flights will be cancelled on Tuesday. Go figure.

Grinner, that'd be the BA cabin crew strike, which is a different little piece of industrial unrest. Stevie's reporting from the inside on the German ATC dispute which has been rumbling on since before Christmas and at one point threatened to do to people's Christmas plans what the fog in England did anyway.

You arent wrong! Silly me!

It is difficult keeping track of all the different disputes - I've no idea how the French manage to do it.

Hi stevie, I just read the story about the averted strike in today's IHT. Anybody interested in the article here it is: Strike By Germany's Air Traffic Controlers Likely Averted After Pay Deal.
Thanks for your info. smile.gif

You're welcome biggrin.gif

There is still the last hurdle to take, though. On Thursday the DFS and GdF are meeting seperately to debate and finally accept what they agreed upon on Saturday (?? unsure.gif ) Once these two meetings are over, the result of the agreement will be announced and the strike is then off. If one of the two groups should have second thoughts about the agreement, then we're back to square one and then there will definitely be a strike ohmy.gif

Either way, Thursday is going to be an interesting day (at least for us) ...
