Madame Sin, Sinette and oneself will be on hand, yes.

A little off topic, but I saw 'Cape Fear' on TV the other night (when Juliette Lewis was probably only 15 or so) - she looked so young...

Madame Sin is no longer up to the task, but Sinette will be joining me for her first ever gig. As a muso I am sooooooo 'kin chuffed that it will be The Licks, rather than some utter shite like Tokio Hotel, I can tell you. Now all I have to do is bring her away impressed enough to switch from her Spanish guitar to something a little more fruity (along the lines of a Telecaster), I'll even throw in a pizza delivery baseball cap for free.
I know a big crowd of non-TT English and Irish mates who will be there, plus a couple more TTers. Where shall we all meet?

Well... I'm gonna try getting Sinette into a mosh pit situation, after all, it is her first ever so we might as well push the boat out, so I'll be up near the front, probably just left of centre-stage. Of course, being a girlie with no clue, Sinette asked me what she should wear. I told her anything she don't mind being totally bollocksed afterwards.

If I hurry, I can meet you at Davo's at 7:20.
I assume Dramadiva will be joining us around that time as well?
I don't know if Davo has contacted Dramadiva about it yet, but it would make sense, seeing as he should have a fridge stuffed full of beverages for our consumption.
However, I do have to maintain just a teensie-weensie bit of fatherly decorum in the meleƩ.

Better not let her near me then. If I get talking to her about Bach's compositions for lute, and 19th-century Spanish composers, the poor kid will be totally corrupted.

She knows a ton of classical, and she's getting bored with it. It's a genre that some people (me included) have to return to when they are older. The real, real, real reason why I'm taking her to see a gig is to maintain, or even accelerate her interest in continuing to play guitar (she's been learning since she was five). Bach doesn't cut the mustard for her at this stage in her development. A bit of no-nonsense, balls-out rock 'n' roll is just the kind of medicine she needs.
Only don't tell her about my cunning plan, or it might end in her giving up playing for good. Which would not be what I am intending. Juliette Lewis is a way of getting my Celebrity Cult daughter wanting to play... in a band, if possible.

Apr 17 2007, 9:49 pm
Ah, well don't worry then, her knowledge of classical would probably put me to shame anyway, so I'll keep my mouth shut. However, I've just had an idea: If Juliette & the Licks doesn't scare the wits out of her, she might enjoy this:
Concert: Ana Popovic @ Muffatwerk Ampere, Thursday 14.Jun.2007
Ana Popovic's weapon of choice is a Fender Strat, with which she plays some pretty mean blues. And it's at the cozy little Ampere, where you can get really close to the artists, maybe even get up on the stage and/or chat to them.

Does anyone know at exactly what time Juliette and the licks start playing - ie is it doors open at 20:00 or band starts at 20:00?
Rog, I've seen them three times. Every time there has been a support. I wouldn't expect The Licks to go on before 21:00, although probably as late as 21:30-22:00.

Apr 18 2007, 3:18 pm
Thanks Sin! I've checked all the internet sites I could find and they all said 20:00 which seemed a little early. Anyway, I've made all my plans to be there by 20:00 so hopefully the support act is good too!
I wouldn't bank on it. The oldest trick in the rock 'n' roll book is to ensure that the support has zero hope of stealin' yer thunder. Mind you, the last support weren't too bad.

Support band are Metro Riots:
Metro Riots are a 4-piece Blues Rock band, Damo (vocals) Danny Fury (Guitar) Sam Ray Bass) and Ollie Parker (Drums), from London. They have been touring endlessly since 2001 and have supported bands such as Dirty Pretty Things, among many others. The song "Thee Small Faces" was also featured on the Need for Speed: Carbon Soundtrack.
Live review:
http://www.new-noise.net/gig-reviews/metro...-riots_433.htmlStart time of 8pm refers to the start of the support band.
Cheers Simes. Just had a little listen to Metroriots. They're not that bad, are they? Did chuckle a bit over the line, "She was born in a kitchen sink".
Were shall I find you and your crew tonight?
Well I popped out at lunchtime to get a ticket as well, so I guess I'll bump into a few of you down there...
Sounds like all the rockers are out tonight then. See you there (again) ski.

so, me fourth Licks concert in Munich and I am always deliberatin' over which one was the best ...of course, I never come to a decision ..the
Atomic Cafe gig rocked, the
Ampere gig rocked, the Backstage gig rocked and last not rocked

quality moments form the Elserhalle included the Spinal Tap style opening, Juliette crowd-surfing big stylee, their truly classic disco cover of Donna Summer's Hot Stuff which thrust the concert into overdrive and the drumming and instrument swapping at the end. Don't know why the don't just blend 'Get up' into the Who's 'Won't Get Fooled Again' ..after all one of the guitarists was into his Townsend-arm-in-the-air impersonation

anyway, already looking forward to the 5th gig ...

Hot Stuff was a work of genius. Especially as it was recorded in Musicland, where the Arabella Sheration Arabellapark is. So a Munich song for a Munich audience.
I like the way she can still sing perfectly when she is surfing over the crowd.

That was fun! Not as loud as I was expecting, so eardrums are mercifully still intact.
Nice to meet Sinette. Afterwards, I asked her "Na, wie war's?", and she just breathed one word: "Super!"

There were a few guys getting rough and moshing near the stage. It seems she didn't want it to be that kind of concert.

Echo the sentiments above. Awesome show. Awesome woman.
The Licks may have been good but I honestly couldn't tell you about it. I couldn't take my eyes off Juliett, I was totally focused on her the entire time. Couldn't help it and that's saying a lot because I usually don't give a toss about lead singers (sorry dd

).

Well, I had to get up at Time-doesn't-exist o'Clock this morning and sit (more like sleep) on a train for three and a half hours, so I haven't seen Sinette since last night and she's asleep now. I really don't know what to make of the fourth gig. As the double-balled cock said, Atomic was just weird, confined (150 in the crowd and you can't move), loud, the bass drum pushing your diaphram, Juliette crowd surfing a few inches from the ceiling and a third of the audience being total spastics for turning up to see a Hollyweird celebrity rather than a rock 'n' roll show. The second gig at
Ampere was mental, she landed on me twice and I even got a peck on the cheek (her to me), and I plead as guilty as the worst for moshin' my socks off. The third gig was the best for the location. I really liked Backstage's new place. Although Juliette didn't crowd surf that time, it was after the gig that I was impressed how nice the band was while chatting to one of the guitarists and the drummer (they just came out and... well, talked. Ask DDBug. She was with me).
This gig... hmm... maybe I only got into it 95% because I had to look out for Sinette and protect her from the minor moshing (until Juliette got all stroppy about it). Although I did have a charming conversation with one of the main protagonists, along the lines of, (Me) "Fuckin' awesome, man". (Him, with probably the only English phrase he has learnt to date) "Fuck off and die". (Me) "So, do you fuck on the first date?". Obviously not, because he moved a few metres away at that point and Sinette breathed a sigh of relief. Shame really, because his bit of crumpet with jet-black dyed hair with a white patch at the front had been attempting to push me backwards unsuccessfully, but I had enjoyed myself 'standing my ground' immensely as she ground those nice little cheeks unwittingly into my groin (at my age you take pleasure where you can get it). I thought the show was great. More material. Longer set. But, if I could give Juliette & The Licks a word of warning I would advise them to avoid disassociation. If they play any larger places they're going to get too removed and suffer the loss of what makes them special; audience interaction. At that point I'll stop going and start looking for the next big thing (a bit like I have been doing since The Clash. When they came back from The States after playing way too big arenas they'd pretty much lost The Plot... and the demise of the band was then as history shows it to be).
There was one little thing that made me chuckle all day. A few girlies in the audience had imitated Juliette and got themselves indian squaw headbands. These headbands had two feathers, one that particular shade of dark green, and the other, that particular shade of violet. I'm talking about those particular shades of colour associated with the British Sufferage Movement; green-white-violet (although there were no white feathers... yes, I know, altogether different meaning on it's own). So I was thinking that these young girlies probably didn't know the significance. Then I turned around and there was this big fat geezer, even older than me (it is still pissoble) with glasses and a beard, and wearing... yep, you guessed. Fuckin' laugh? I should cocoa.
Doesn't anybody else get the right fuckin' hump at twats in the audience holding their arms aloft to hold a rough directional bit of electronics to take digital pics and mini-movies? I think they should organise a Rent-A-Mosh gang just to aim for these people and take 'em out. Puckin' fillocks! If you want to masturbate at a gig, go see The fuckin' Police. They're the masters at it.
