Sweet Jebus, look at that line-up.
3 dead band reforming from the grave.

Has anyone ever been to this festival?
Is it near anything like civilisation?
How doable is this?
Because Rage Against the Machine, the JAMCs and last but not least one of the first Crowded House shows without Paul Hester has to be looked into. Fuck getting a new kitchen.
Cheers.

I have been once, in 2004, when Pixies, Radiohead, the Cure, and Kraftwerk were the headliners (amongst others).

It's an excellent festival. Very well organized, very well kept, beautiful setting, and the weather will guaranteed be nice and sunny (read: not a chance in hell of any mud adventures). Mind you, it does get hot in the desert though - figure around 30-35 C temps during the day, and it drops to a nice 20 at night. Just stay low during the day anyways, and there's plenty of "shade" tents to chill out underneath.

I didn't camp (only did one day), so can't comment on that. But I'm sure that is also very well organized and what not.

I'm not sure what you mean if it's near anything like civilisation... It is about a two hour drive from LA, towards Palm Springs. You could also theoretically fly into Palm Springs I'm sure, but I don't think it would be worth it.

I reckon it's very doable - it's held end of April / beginning of May when flights are still relatively cheap, so you'll most likely be able to score a good deal on a flight. And just rent a car at LAX, and head out. Spend the rest of a 7 day stay either in Las Vegas or LA. Hopefully the dollar will remain weak against the Euro as well, making things cheaper everywhere you go.

If you're into nature stuff, be sure to visit Joshua Tree National Park which is only about a half hour drive from Coachella. Beautiful place, and world renowned for it's boulder climbing.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me.

Here's a pic of waiting for the Pixies to come on at the main stage.

Thanks, tickets don't go on sale until the weekend so I have time to sleep it over, but I am sorely tempted due to never having been there and with that line-up.

Sonic Youth
The Roots
The Decembrist also?

Shit sounds like a road trip.

For a contrary view I happened to read earlier today:

QUOTE
Would you like fries with your festival?
With a fabulous line-up of bands, California's Coachella ought to be a blast. Instead it's the festival equivalent of a slap-up meal at McDonalds.

But yes, a damn fine looking line-up.

Yeah I sent a link to my best friend about this. We had been thinking of a road trip for august along 101 but it just might be bumped for this.
Saturday
so anyone else is going to this? I'll be driving from San Francisco with my sisters on April 26. We need at least one more in our car to be able to participate Carpoolchella, the price is VIP tickets to Coachella for LIFE! wink.gif

So how was it this year? Damn, I miss the heat and our monster party pads with huge pools in Palm Springs. And Arcade Fire, the Pixies and Kraftwerk rocked the festival a few years back (I am sure I am mixing the years up) as did MIA. I see she´s coming (or maybe was just here?) to MUC as well. She´s a bit annoying, but does whip the crowd into a frenzy...

coachella... what an incredible festival... i went in 2004... i remember it being hot... and not being able to decide on a tent because the line-up was insane everywhere... and the setting... that gorgeous palm-surrounded polo field in the middle of the desert... unbeatable... had two very memorable days there...
