The first snow of the year.

Everywhere is white and the kids can play.
Timmeh
Yay, apart from the kids thing. And apart from it's not the first snow either
Kenichi
Was the name Timmeh created in reference to the "Timmmeeeehhhh" from SouthPark fame? Just curious...

and yes, nice snow and kids and all that...what a wonderful life.
parnell

I have often wondered this also.

That snow better still be there when we get back. How good is it anyway?
Kenichi
Well I have seen better snow back home in Hokkaido...
HellesAngel
Stop press: Everything in Munich is black and slushy, with frequent yellow bits appearing...
Sari
Nah...just go out of the downtown part...outside my window everything is white smile.gif

This is how winter should be done smile.gif

Hopefully Munich will get a decent dusting and this snowy weather continues for the next weeks / months!

hiya.

anyone know if the s-bahns are running alright (my guess is there are some delays?!)
only curious cause i didn't see any news on the MVV site, but i'd like to know before leaving the house, if possible.

thx.
sarabyrd
It's charming snow, delightful to shovel, light and fleecy. I hope others have found it so, too.

My s-bahn was on time. Bus was a bit late, but only by a few minutes.

Has anyone heard or used the term "Schnee Chaos" yet? rolleyes.gif

isn't it great looking out? Man I love snow! Its so pretty walking to work this morning, (except for the asshole snowcleaner that just about ran me over- off the find vent page), it looks so clean out.

"O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy"

I like snow.

i used to like snow when i didn't cycle to work but new year's resolution can't be broken in January. bugger.

Just cleared the paths and driveway. Now I have to drive to Stuggart and hope that i arrrive there before twelve. I really hate the snow.

My DB train was 90 min late in leaving last night but I got home.
Carm

Renia
Didn't he go to TTT? wink.gif
Darkknight
The S2, S27 and S4 are also having problems and are running late (Bus service on the S2. Trains are going to Trudering and then Bus to Reim, Train to Erding)

No I got home at 1 AM but was due to be home much earlier. I was on the 10 PM train but it did not leave until 11:30 PM.
UrbanAngel
Hardly any paths have been cleared in the city centre surprisingly, as though they weren't expecting snow? Anyway, yes.. SBahns are delayed and I only saw 1 bus the whole time (instead of 3 or 4) so I presume they're having problems too. You'd think, anyway.
perdido
Yeah its like a holliday here in raintown. There are hardly any foot tracks in the snow. Its like every Bavarian has been waiting for this and called in sick, laugh.gif

Let's start posting snow photos of 2007!!! :-)
mellelisa
Hardly any roads cleared out in Landkreis Ebersberg! Wish I was out playing in it instead of at work!

The Manich Street Scrapers havent been out and about in our Village...

There where no trains going through Leuchtenbergring from 07:00 until 08:15. Checked again at 08:35, still nothing.

Problems with the signals between near Berg-am-laim apparently

Waited for a Bus at Prinz-Regenten Str. but didtn come

Stuck at home

Bit of snow this morning in Heidelberg, and will be coming home on DB this afternoon, so I hope the delays are not too bad!
Last night my train from Bensheim originating in Frankfurt to Heidelberg, final destination Munich was 20 minutes delayed, apparently because of snow in Bayern.
These clever DB people can build in the delays even before they get to where they are going and the where the problems are!
Looks like my decision not to drive to Heidelberg and back was a wise one then!
Hutcho
Rode to work as usual this morning, excellent!

Another great thing about snow is it makes everything so quiet by absorbing all the noise. Really great out there today, lets hope it keeps on coming down at the same rate cause its pelting at the moment..
sGb27
Looks like it will be stopping soon. sad.gif
bern
Bah humbug. I hate snow.

Who do you beleive?

That and the fact that suddenly nobody is in a tearing hurry any more.

Looks like it will be stopping soon.

Radar and precip forecasts for this system have been so pathetic. For example, in the link you posted it shows that it should be stopped now, however its currently coming down as hard as ever.

Yesterday, another radar forecast said at 15:45 that we were experiencing medium density precip. There was nothing coming down at all! Then the GFS models downgraded precip to only 1 or 2cm overnight, but almost 10cm fell.

Better just to look out the window for this one than at maps.

Hardly any paths have been cleared in the city centre surprisingly, as though they weren't expecting snow?

The Oettingenstrasse, main drag from the Mittlerer Ring/Englischer Garten to the inner city, remains uncleared.
As to S-Bahn, we got an announcement at Hauptbahnhof that there was an accident/incident and there would be delays due to the paramedics arriving. I don't know how long that lasted, I hopped out and caught the U-Bahn instead.
pepper
Well the S-7 is in complete Chaos, had to wait 1 hour this morning, then when it finally arrives, its only 1 part, so then it was nice and cosy, warm snuggled together like sardines.
Kat
The S2 isn't making it to Leuchtenbergring at all. I've just had to give up and go home (see my VENT) because I'm frozen stiff having waited two hours in this effing BLIZZARD. And no one better say the word TAXI to me. There are none at Leuchtenbergring, for one thing.
Puku
Flights are being delayed and canceled too - we have a good 30cm out here in Freising.

You can check your flight status here: http://www.munich-airport.de/EN/Areas/Cons...luege/index.jsp

Skiing is going to be GOOOOD!
Why8
Snow has a psychological effect of making people happy, doesn't it?

Has to do with how it makes everything much brighter after greyish rainy wintry weathers, and the things we associate with snow like snow angels, snow men, skiing. Also it covers all the flaws of the city up.

It's amazing how good everyone's mood is today in the office, in the S-bahns, etc. Germans were actually SMILING at strangers in the S-bahn, unbelieveable. tongue.gif
dolfan
I am definitely happy about the snow. I am also happy that I bought a couple jugs of gluhwein so i could have proper cup if/when it finally snowed. Looks like all my planning has come to fruitation.
perdido
Well its still coming down pretty good here. About to go walk along the Donau to see how it looks. It should be pretty nice.
PES
Here in Ludwigsburg we have over a foot of lovely light snow, and she is still coming down.

Skiing is going to be GOOOOD!

Firstly, that is what everyone is thinking, so its going to be packed on the weekend.

Secondly, it seems that more snow has fallen here in Munich than in most of the Alps. For example, Mayrhofen has only received 10cm out of this storm, and 10cm on a base of almost 0 isn't much.

I want to go skiing bigtime, but I'm not sure this weekend is the right time for it.
