Only about my second post on here, but does anyone know of any English speaking driving schools in Nordrhein-Westfalen, preferably in the Düsseldorf OR Köln regions?
I need to find somewhere that does the theoretical (that's to say non-driving) part in English as well, as my German is still REALLY poor.
Anyone got any recommendations
?
Thanks in advance, pop-pickers.

Hi
If you are looking for a driving school to offer practical lessons in english in Duesseldorf, you can try Marx in Ostrasse 100. They have one instructor who can speak English. There is another one in Oberkassel, but I am sorry i don't have the details right now, perhaps next post, they are more expensive anyway though...
For theory lessons in English, basically you won't find a school that offers it here. You will just buy a "book" in english from your selected driving school, which is, fortunately, translated in english, costs 52 or 54 euros, but it's not exactly a book, it's basically a collection of test papers that include all the possible test questions you might have in a theory test. It includes the answer of course. Just study it yourself.
Once you registered to a school, you will HAVE to go to 14 lessons, they will give you a "stamp" on your student paper, once you have collected 14 of the stamps, you are "ready" to go for a test. Since my german is really not that good, I understand like 30% of it in a lesson, I have learnt to simply show up before the class starts, get the stamp from the school, then leave early, after all, you just read the "book" and learn it yourself, rather than spending 1.5 hours sitting in boredom.
My school (perhaps it applies to all schools, i don't know) has a policy the lesson 13 and 14 are the mandatory, and they will give you a timetable showing which day is teaching which lesson. So make sure among all of the 14 lessons, there must be 13 and 14 in it.
Hope that helps!

Oh, i just realized there is indeed a book in english (at least from the same publisher of the test papers I got from my driving school), but it's quite expensive, it costs 59 euro.

so you're one of the unlucky ones who cannot transfer their d.l. to a german one or are you just learning to drive?

Try Hans Lucke in Zundorf. You might have found him as it is a while since you posted.
Both Hans and his wife who helps him speak good English.

Can anyone give me any information of roughly the amount of time it takes for one to get their driving license in Germany?
With the theory lessons, can you only go once a week or could you technically go every night for 2 weeks to get the 14 lessons completed??
Any information would be a great help

Thanks
