Hazza
Well it's that time of the year again. The annual Ashes game. This is where the MCC (Munich Cricket Club - essentially English) take on the Munich Australians at cricket.

It's always a matter of national pride for both teams - The Aussies will be looking to make it 3 in a row this year and the Poms aren't too happy!!! It would be great to see some support there.

We'll be starting at around 1pm at the Hirschanger - a mere 5 minutes walk from the Chinese tower. Directions are here....
DrivinWest
As neither Poms nor Aussies, who should the yanks cheer for? Beer goes a long way to coaxing us into fans.
thejarvii
What day?
Showem
It's this Saturday. I will be there, cheering for the Aussies. There is usually a BBQ after, isn't there Hazza?
Hazza
Ooops...sorry..

On Saturday, 7 August...that's this weekend

No BBQ on this year Showem...couldn't get ourselves organised

We'll just be impressed if you manage to stick around and watch it all day...
Showem
If you come down and watch, I can explain it, if you like. I've been paying close attention and even know what LBW is and how you get it.
flogger
you should umpire then.

a brown paper bag full of used twenties will be left in the bin near the home changing room.
canuck
Isn't that leg before wicket...?? Using my infinite cricket knowledge. blink.gif
Showem
Flogger, I think you are better of with your impartial Kiwis.

Damn, I have been waiting to see a cricket match in munich for months and you guys gonna have a game this Saturday, a day after I leave to Thailand/India for a month.
Are there any playing days left in Sepetember or is it too cold?
Hazza
We usually play until the start of the Oktoberfest - if the weather is OK...
roots
Can I play? I am sure I can send down one wicked googley that would make Shane Warne proud smile.gif
alanbail
As usual the date has been set to ensure no aussies are on holiday but all or most of the english are. Main thing is to get completely walloped before going out to bat, makes it far more interesting.
acquascutum
why is it called the ashes when it is munich cricket club and not munich english?
interplanetjanet
Are you open to new players on the Aussie team? My hubby might be interested in playing...

The test match (5-day version of the game) series between AUS and ENG is called Ashes series. It it a tradition that goes back to 1870's. Since the Munich cricket club is basically AUS vs ENG, they like to call it Ashes as well.

So we should play in January then?
Jeeves
How many overs a side?
Hazza
40 overs a side...actually, we're starting at 12:30 too.

Teams for this were already selected a while ago. Of course it helps if you actively play cricket in Munich - or at least used to, in order to get a run.

If anyone wants to join the MCC (and most of the Aussies play for them usually), then get in touch through www.munichcricket.net or just show up to training at the Hirschanger one Friday afternoon for training. We still have a few games left this year...

no.
the aussies will all be on holiday.
but then again you could play it on bondi beach as the poms wouldn't struggle to get a side in sydney.
Wee Man
Cricket is so boring sleep.gif
flogger
totally agree its a fuckin serious waste of time.

i would much rather be out doing some fox hunting instead.
interplanetjanet
@hazza

thanks, i've forwarded that website to him. he got pretty excited when i told him about people playing cricket in munich. i didn't realize the club was so organized though - thought it might just be a few guys getting together for some backyard cricket...

Don't like cricket? Play touch rugby instead.
alanbail
no should play out of main school holiday season. simple. almost too simple.
alanbail

yep touch rugby - quality. Possibly the most pointless sport ever played, if that is, you can class it as a sport.

Like turning boxing into slap boxing. pointless. half a job bob
chicken^tonight
I'll be there with bells on.
Jeeves
Can't miss a chance to see an Ashes match at last smile.gif

@ wee man Nothing more boring than people who say that things are boring blink.gif
flogger
will the game be on... the weather doesnt look too good?

its far too hot.
alanbail
fair to say the aussies took a beating . skittled . peinlich. pointless.
Jeeves
To quote from the 'presentation ceremony':
There was some good cricket played, just not for very long biggrin.gif

Thanks for some great entertainment guys.
flogger
highlight of the day 2 forschungsbrauerei kegs.

keggage. the future.

was pleased it finished early..waste not want not.
Moko
A very enjoyable, if brief, match - thanks for the entertainment!
Was there a Man of the Match?
alanbail
Yeah there was. He spoilt it tho', let himself down apparently. Reports suggest his limp body was carried from the chinese tower 1am sunday morning. Last seen chuffing on a fat spliff and gorging on strange looking pilze ...so rumour has it...
flogger
as an eye witness can cfm those rumours have more than an element of truth.

hopefully he is out of hospital/mental asylum by now.
flogger
