So, I was out today, and saw the Krapfen display at the Bakery, and just had to buy one or two... I love the Chocolate Rum ones from Müller. The Raspberry ones from Cafe Richart are aslo kick ass.
So, what is your Fav kind and Fav Place to buy them?
Don't you just love Fasching time?

I have also never tried that one either (call a krapfen), we get them at the office delivered from 2 local backeries, both are patients, and they send us huge boxes just before Fasching of the peach/apricot ones.

krapfen fillings must be regional. if you get the old run-of-the-mill ones in bavaria, well, at least munich, they are filled with apricot. i think it was in B.W. where the run-of-the-mill filling was raspberry. i know each fasching our boss used to donate some and i think it was always rasberry.
but yes jeeves, the högl on lindwurmstr. has the best. last year, start of fasching time, i had a coconut-cream filled one. oh, so delicious.

Carm, can I have an appointment when they deliver?
Boisenberry is great, my school cafeteria used to have them. And I have to try Högl's piña colada ones this year.

Jan 19 2007, 7:13 pm
My office supplies Krapfen too -- when I worked in Stuttgart we got the BW version, "Berliner" -- and I think that the filling was raspberry, as Elfenstar said. Also they had regular sugar rather than powder sugar. I personally prefer Berliner to Krapfen, not only do I prefer raspberry to apricot, the doughnut pastry also seemed lighter and more delicious there!

The German karpfen are really fatty and terrible. My grandmother used to bake them with strawbery jam, and those are my favorite type of karpfens.

well, thanks for the photo Grinner,
now back to topic, I had a vanilla cream from Bachmeier today, with almonds, but I still prefer the Cafe Rischart krapfen... could use a nice choco rum/some sort of decandnet kind at the moment.

My favorite so far (I've only had a few; this is the first time I've been here this time of year!) are the ones with rose-hip jelly in them. mmmmm...

We wandered past a temporary table-thingy at
Olympia Einkaufszentrum where they were selling all kinds last year. I liked the blood-orange best. My Bavarian husband was horrified - apparently it has to be powdered sugar and apricot jam or "it's not a Krapfen."
Traditionalists lead such boring lives.

Tried the champagne strawberry one too after all the glowing recommendations, and while very good - how does one eat it without getting red goo all over one's face? Do people eat krapfen with a knife and fork? I think I will stick to the Müller schoko-donuts unless I am eating alone.

Renia, did you manage to ignore them?
I unfortunately tried my very hardest to ignore them but ended up getting a Nougat & my now very-favourite-messy-gooey-strawberry-champers one from Mueller. (and yes, the nougat one was much less sticky, gooey and gloopy but not as nice)

Yes, I did Melrose...its a battle between me and them... I saw some kind of Lime one today that might be my Friday treat :-)

I was walking through the
HBF this morning and on the corner of the food court area (near the lolly stand) there was a portable cart type thing (from a store, can't remember name sorry!) selling a most ravishing assortment of krapfen. One of them was definitely Lime and 'something'. I have blocked most of it from my memory!
Good luck!

okay, in the past week, had alot of krapfen (no wonder the pants are tight), and had a nice plain apricot one from the Weiderman Bakers in Grosshadern. The Apricot center was not really sweet like jam, but more like pureed apricots. Very good.
Then another patient brought me two alcohol filled ones for an 'afternoon
pep up' some rum nugat and a champagne one, from Richarts... both very yummy.

I have been mostly good and have ignored all Krapfen the past week. Very difficuilt but doable. (although staying away from dangerous well known Krapfen-zones do help!!) I will stay under my bed untill Krapfen time is over...

Carm, I have tried one or two (or three) of their Krapfen and I wasn't impressed. Mostly old, dried out thingies... Nope not impressed at all. I stay away from Backmeiers Krapfen. Quite disappointing really, seeing that their other stuff is yummy.

I am very happy to report I have found three more kinds of Krapfen here. Eierlikör, Erdbeer-Champagner and Kinder (which does not contain any kiddo parts but is with Smarties on top).
I bought one with Eierlikör and one with Erdbeer-Champagner, and I will eat them when I get home, can't wait.

Erdbeer-Champagner is the ENEMY!!! Do not eat it, I repeat, Do not eat it. Put it down. Take 2 steps back. Highly addictive substance! Dangerous
Carm, good idea to combine the decadence with a little walk. Then you don't have to feel so guilty!

No, we do not actually have Müller here, oh how I miss it. It is a bakery named Kamps. I don't think they have any stores in Munich.
I have an appointment in 15 mins with a teacher of mine, oh the fun. But now I have something (actually two things) to look forward to after the appointment.
