There is an interesting article "
The Goodbye Girls" in today's Times about an apparent lack of women in the former East Germany. It seems that the younger women (in the demographic 18 to 30 years of age) are leaving in droves (or have already left) resulting in a serious inbalance in the male/female ratio that you would only imagine seeing in China or India.
This article also states that this seems to be contributing to the perceived rise of the far right in the East as added to the high unemployment rate young German men are finding it hard to find a wife or girlfriend.
I haven't travelled extensively in Germany though in my one trip in East Germany recently I did have the feeling that there were more young men than women.
Has anyone seen any articles in the German press regarding this?

They should open up the borders and let the hot eastern european/ex-soviet block birds in. Two problems solved in one go.

But they wouldn't want to stay in East Germany either perhaps!

The eastern states have a severe demographic problem that has long existed.
That's why Ulbricht built the Berlin Wall etc, not just becasue he was "evil" or a Stalinist bastard.

I have met a lot of good looking women from eastern Germany on here. One or two I wish I was in contact with. Wait what was the point of this thread again? Oh yeah East German girls are hot.

Hmm. In my experience, the hottest German men are from the East. And I mean I have known some seriously hottie Ossies. Might have to plan my next holiday in Berlin - lots of sexy men and very little competition

On that note I'd have to add that German men on the whole are generally a lot hotter than Brit blokes.

hams, I could start a whole new topic debating German vs. British guys, but I might save that one for the Ladies Forum. But generally speaking, the best-looking guys of any nationality I've ever met were German. Note that I've said nothing about personality, we're strictly talking looks. But anyway... back on topic...

I was with an Ossie for years, he looked like Robert Redford but he bored me to tears and he, wanting to make up for the fact that his parents, who each had two university degrees but never had the life they would have had in the West, was a workoholic consultant who, yes, earned a six-figure income but was never home with me because he was on location during the week. So I spent almost four years with a beautiful but boring man. He would have made very pretty, tall, intelligent babies...I guess my genes would have had to contribute the "feisty curiosity".
There are some incredibly handsome men in Leipzig, I know of a couple of them who work at the Uni there. *sigh*

Yeah, on the whole prefer german Men tbh.
I've heard eastern men are more sexy as they have less of this bourgeois christian guilt that the wessis do.

Hmmmmmm. I cannot decide who to slag off. It's either:
1. West German men for being so shallow they hook up with chicks based on looks.
2. East German women for being so shallow as to run westwards to "Show me the money".
Either way it is clearly deplorable.
p.s. Any hotties from the East please email me direct on idhitthatcommie@hotmail.com

Borg Queen, same here except, the guy I dated was a futures trader and he looked like carrot top (I mean the face) but had a short hair cut. He would have to be home at 9:00:00 p.m go to bed at 10:00:00 p.m., wake up at 6:45:00 a.m.and go to work, work from 7:00:00 a.m. to 5:00:00 p.m. and we could meet approxiamately 1:00:00 hour each day during the week as he was always working on his trading plan and had 3-4 hours for partying on Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday was all booked for doing laundry.

I did not date him for four years like you but for a year.

I would think Berlin still has a good male/female ratio right now, it´s the other towns in East Germany that are short of women... So how about a nice vacation in let´s say Dresden or Leipzig to check the hotties?

Actually, this bit of news would explain why my beautiful Ossie ex-boyfriend was involved with a totally unattractive East German chick with the personality of an eggplant before he met me: a lack of options.
What it does NOT explain is why he broke up with me and went back to her.

Being in Europe for a while and dating men of various nationalities had led me to one conclusion: I now have learned to appreciate American men more than I ever did before. Looks, money and intellectualism may be nice, but in the end, I want a man who understands me... if that is even humanly possible.. LOL
So I will chose my next man based on this lesson that I have finally learned. My priorities have shifted.
edit: Georgiagirl, we were apparently typing at the same time. Interesting though, because I am wondering if cultural identification in the end brings people back to those who they feel understand where they are coming from? Not always of course, but sometimes.

Think of it as the fact that you are so beautiful and he couldn't handle the fact that someone would poach you at any second so he went back to his ugly chick knowing that noone else would want her

Yes, I realise that there is something to be said for a nice complacent girlie who never questions you, has no real opinions, will never be unfaithful and just generally thinks you're the dog's bollocks no matter what you do.
Course I think a lot of those girlies might be lobotomy patients, but small price to pay for a lifetime free of nagging and tantrums eh?
