Well, the above-ground U-Bahn is still running to Garching Forschungszentrum. The wind seems to have died down a bit. Wondering now if it's safe to venture out for the 5-minute walk to the U-Bahn.

So is the worst yet to come or ...?
The radar image suggests Munich hasn't been hit by the main band of the storm yet.

Has anyone mentioned yet that there won't be any school tomorrow? This affects Oberbayern. It's called "Schulfreier Tag am 19. Januar". You can check under bayern.de. Good news for some, i suppose!

Going off the movement on that radar we should get hit by the good stuff in about 1 1/2 hours. My Sky dish is getting battered to hell, glad i got someone proper to install it and not my crappy diy skills in question.

So someone spare me reading 12 pages - how windy did it get? Anything comparable to the Boxing Day storm of '98 in Munich? Or was it 99? I'm getting old. I was out today, battling 100kmh winds while touring Bath, so anything less won't get much sympathy from me.

Yeah anarchy did not break out like I hoped. It was a bit hyped up but it was good to see the city as well as the country prepare itself.
Good morning all. The situation so far this morning:
QUOTE
Service Bahn:
Die Regionalbahnen in Bayern verkehren derzeit nur eingeschränkt. Es wird empfohlen sich vor Fahrtantritt rechtzeitig über die aktuellen Reisemöglichkeiten zu informieren. (06:05)
Only partial service right now on the trains.
QUOTE
Service S-Bahn:
Die S-Bahnen in München verkehren derzeit nur eingeschränkt (06:06)
Only partial service right now on the S-Bahn
QUOTE
Service Flughafen München:
Mehrere Flüge sind aufgrund des Unwetters annulliert. Bitte informieren Sie sich rechtzeitig im Internet, ob Ihr Flug davon betroffen ist. (22:08)
Many flights have been cancelled.
A lot of roads (too many to list) and Autobahns are closed due to fallen trees and danger of such.
Can't find anything more detailed just now.
Schools are all closed, including the European school, as reported last night. There will be some teachers at the public schools for looking after kids who show up, and the Kindergartens should be open.

Today I got a message that my kid's school is closed. But my office? Should I go to work or not???
I have a meeting this morning, and I'm confused...
S-1, S-8 and the S-2 are going again, so I'll be off to work. I think if you can get to work, you should go. I'm not sure about buses though, city and regional. I'll have to do some walking, I suppose.

Just had a look at the
MVV website and the ticker only says that all the trams are running on schedule this morning.
No mention of any other kind of transport. Surely they could do better about informing the public about these situations?

How do you know the S7 was on time and not one exactly an hour late?
And exactly where did you see it, and in what direction?
Was it going the full stretch or a shortened distance?

Jan 19 2007, 7:49 am
Oh, and just got onto the Muenchen SBahn website, not updated at all, saying nothing is running.
At least the MVV tells you your tram is running.
The web boys are probably out there moving a few trees of the line.

I just caught the S7 from the city to Siemenswerke - it said it was heading for Wolfratshausen. The S20 wasn't running, but the S7 certainly did appear to be on time (may well have been exactly an hour late, but that's nothing new for the S7). The digital announcement boards weren't announcing either (except to say that the S20 wasn't running at all), so I couldn't see which S7 I was taking - a punctual or a late one. I did also see several buses on the road.

Picky, picky, crispybee! The S7 runs past my house (single track at that point). 1st the down train goes past then a few minutes later the train to Munich goes back up the same line. Tis some kind of safety thing they have worked out so that they do not bump into eachother

. You are right though, maybe it was the the train from some hours ago... If the MVV read this website then they could maybe use the info to update their own site.

Of course, it might have been some odd train from last week that never turned up, and that they decided to shove in now so that no-one would notice it among the general confusion.

I got to work OK, but the S-Bahns appear to be running in random patterns. Saw loads of S-5s heading towards Herrsching, but then a huge gap with nothing. Some trains were starting at Ostbahnhof, and several trains were short ones. I expect that they will claim that the rolling stock is all in the wrong place. Perhaps, for those UK readers, it was the wrong kind of wind!
The only consolation is that everywhere seemed really quiet, and I guess lots of people are having duvet days rather than brave the journey to work.
Loads of minor damage around Taufkirchen, but nothing spectacular.
Biggest disaster is that my satellite is reporting no signal. Kids are off school - any guess as to how long it will be before the complaints start flooding in?

Morning,
Last night we watched a tree sitting on the S6 cable and throwing out sparks. The fire brigade turned up and eventually the electric was turned off so they could remove the tree. It was quite exciting!
We live next the the S-BAhn line at ottobrunn, so there is no trains going past Neubiberg on the S6 at the moment.
