great, guess who's got a flight booked tonight to Amsterdam... I am thinking about rescheduling it to tomorrow. No way I am getting there tonight.
Am also flying tonight, UK-Munich - v windy in UK right now but all flights are still on.
www.stanstedairport.com Mind you, I'd rather be stuck at home rather than on the Island so maybe if you can fly tomorrow as you said. Fingers crossed I get home tonight...and anyone else travelling too.
Reckon you just have to keep monitoring the situation.

@MRs Peel,
I will keep my fingers crossed for you as well. I just do not fancy sitting at the airport and waiting for the storm to go by. So far here in Munich the winds are not so bad.

ooh so the weather debate sparks up. Every website out of Germany seems to say that it might rain tonight and wind is 14kmph. however all the newspapers and websites in Berlin are saying extreme weather after 15:00 in Berlin, dont leave your house!
I have to say it does seem a little hyped up by the tabloids (no suprise there) but there has just been a weather warning on Bloomberg TV though..
Check these links out for some (hopefully)"over hyped" weather warnings:
http://www.morgenpost.de/desk/1181195.htmland:
http://www.berlinonline.de/berliner-zeitun...aft/621193.htmlboth quite interesting articles.
and in response to an earlier disput over the wind speed of gales and hurricanes, this storm is expected to be force 12 on the Beaufort scale, ie.
force mph knots (10 m above ground)
8 39-46 34-40 Gale Breaks twigs off trees;
generally impedes progress.
9 47-54 41-47 Severe Gale Slight structural damage occurs
(chimney-pots and slates removed).
10 55-63 48-55 Storm Seldom experienced inland; trees
uprooted; considerable structural
damage occurs.
11 64-72 56-63 Violent Storm Very rarely experienced;
accompanied by wide-spread damage.
12 73-83 64-71 Hurricane --
the lack of explanation of a hurricane speaks for itself i think!

It may be a bit "over-hyped", especially up north, since the hardest hit areas are expected to be in the south and southwest, but it's real. The storm is enormous which is why it's so exceptional. that's also the reason it'll hit pretty hard so far inland. Once hurricanes make landfall they normally die out quickly (conversely, the huge storms on the gas giant planets don't appear to hit land masses and thus can last for centuries). In this case, the formation is bringing in water from the Med Sea, the North Sea and the Altlantic. I can't find a single weather center which will make any serious prediction of the storm's track beyond tonight.
woof.

All pressure areas have names. This year low pressure systems get male names, high pressure systems get female names. Next year vice versa.

The best craic when its stormy here is to go up the top of the Olympic Tower, pull yer jacket over yer head and jump into the wind. Or if it's coming out of the right direction run down the Olympiaberg with yer jacket up like sails and jump. Highly recommended. Used to do it on Howth Head as kids.
