The
Wetterdienst site has removed the time forecast and now staets it's expected to hit us later tonight, but strangely enough it still calls the storm "fast-moving toward the east".

Was just wondering what it means. Sounds good though.
Now let's see you write your name in Cyrillic script.

Right, though I don't know whether it's supposed to have a 'hard sign' at the end or not. Anyway, a frivolous thing to discuss now, seeing that Kyrill is causing considerable loss of life.

So far two dead in Bayern and the little girl in Milbertshofen has made the news. That has got to suck for those parents.

Well I was just downtown, and I actually forgot about the storm. It seemed rather calm in some parts. I guess the buildings block off a lot of the gusts. However, now I´m back home (West Munich) and it feels and sounds like I´m on the edge of the ocean - lotta wind, windows rattling etc. I wonder if it´ll get any worse.

Wind is seriously picking up now. Not yet the orkan as promised, but damn gusty out there just like at the beach with a storm offshore.

Just drove home to Haidhausen from Ottobrunn and no drama, tbh not much worse than it was last thursday when it was windy. BBC and ITV blocky again though on Sky
Ludwigsburg is quiet, but they say at 8:00 we will be hit.

Yeah, they keep putting it off. First 3pm, blah blah blah and now sometime tonight. This is what happened in 2002. The damn thing finally hit around 10pm and the basement was flooded by 11. I was up till 2am cleaning shit up.

Wow, just watching Granada News ( NW England ) and they have it way worse than us, all trams off, trains mostly off, Liverpool Airport closed and Manchester airport lots of flights grounded, all trans pennine road routes closed etc etc etc

Gridlock everywhere across Manchester and the entire region.

You seen the footage of a Bae 146 taking off from Brum, BD? Damn thing takes off at one hell of an angle - the slip due to the crosswind must have been incredible.
My daughter is over the moon. All schools in Bavaria are closed tomorrow.

One of the local work colleagues has been told he has to fly to Bremen at 06.50 tomorrow morning for a meeting and he spent over half an hour begging his boss not to send him, poor bugger was white as a sheet with fear.
He's still gotta go though

Edit : Not seen it Jimbo, would love to, at least he had 4 engines on it to give him a fighting chance.

Well Regensburg at least the aldtstadt is like a ghost town. I keep looking for a tumbleweed to roll across. Went to the Irish pub and it was completly empty, and wasnt even smokey. Its pretty much quiet except the occasional wind burst. Local news keeps telling us to be prepared for the next few hours.

6 o'clock news ran it, so check the news at 10 - the nose was pointing at almost 45 degrees away from the direction of travel...I wouldn't have wanted to have flown to be honest...

Well living on the top floor of our apartment building is giving us a great idea about the gusts going past at the moment. I'm a bit nervous because in the "little" storm last week we lost several metres of roof tiles which landed in the courtyard below. Hubby ringing hourly from work to check if we still have a roof is not helping at all

According to the boards on the U-bahn (and if my german is up to scratch) the S-bahn is now suspended apart from the main drag between Pasing and Ostbahnhof.

Hmmm, but on the MVV website is says the trams are suspended, but squat about the S-bahn ...maybe they're all down? Who knows...

I'd say it's definately getting worse in this part of Munich. The advice to stay indoors seems to be pretty sensible now. The death toll across Europe due to the storms is now 14 (most of those are from the UK)

The storm broke into my house and now all my base belong to wind.
Actually, something loud and chunky just landed outside the window. Oh dear. Only way to still the fear is to smoke some more of that fine Bavarian crack I keep around the house for when it gets windy. But the wind stole my crackpipe. Please advise.

All schools closed early today, due to the storm warning. My colleagues all went home at 1p.m, I had to stay till 3 with one kid who didn´t get picked up until then.

There was also thunder and lightning up here as well, with winds up to 200kmh on the Brocken in the Harz. I´m glad I don´t live on the coast, there´s a Sturmflut coming.

Works grand in Firefox 2.0.0.1 for Mac, might need to update it. Or download Real Player and copy and paste the url into the address field.

The plane taking off happens 3 minutes in. It's not that big a deal. The plane "crabs": as soon as it's off the ground it's flying sort of cockeyed. While this is common with small aircraft and rare with large planes, it's a very normal procedure, one every single pilot learns early on. The pilot is flying directly into the wind but forcing the plane to stay on track withth runway in case of emergency. You always stay along the runway as long as possible for safety.

Yeah, after watching the video, it seemed kinda anti-climatic after all the hype about it.

Has anyone else out there had power outages? We kept on flicking on and off for about two hours in spite of turning off most electrical appliances and lights.
The S1 was running to the airport only by 6pm due to damages between the airport and Freising. And anyone in Munich city center has no idea what the storm was like in the bacon belt - my route from Lohhof S-Bahn home leads me between building sites on each side of the street with dirt and grit getting blown vertically into the air and scaffolding creaking and plastic covers snapping. Not quite as bad as Vivian and Wiebke in 1990 but bad enough.
Haggis Junior deigned to believe me when I gave her the news about the schools closing. So she gets to rearrange her room.
Oh, and the TV box kept dying.
