The use of propaganda-post cards might of course indicate a political orientation or indeed an affiliation with a particular branch of service, but I wouldn't attach too much weight to it as in that day and age I guess these kinds of cards were pretty "normal", unfortunately ...

The active travelling of this Sepp guy might simply have to do with his father's job as an engineer - cheap train tickets, but his stay in Berlin might point in an altogether different direction ... keep us posted!

Because genealogical research in the states is big business and it is full of scam artists as well. I, and I am sure others, just wanted to know that we are helping someone who has a sincere interest and good intentions. I have my own family genealogical website and I give the info freely away. My relatives hired some scammer early in the 1900's who came up with the tale that our family is from France and were pirates with Red Beard.

I think the name is Emil and not Erich.

i see no reference to them being in the military but more than likely they were inducted. Not to be negative I would have to say I seriously doubt that the locomotive driver survived due to the fact trains were a prime target for strafing runs by the allies. More to the point most men that started the war did not survive the duration of the war.

Rest assure, I am researching about these individuals for the purest reasons - to learn what became of them and to see if there were any present-day descendants.
The Toytown Germany community has helped tremendously.
A question I was still wondering - is the house at #17 Herbststrassee in Rosenheim still standing ?

I'll ask my brother to take a look next time he's in Rosenheim, I don't go there very often. Here's a link to the map, Herbststrasse is directly above the arrow, but as far as I remember most of the buildings there are fairly new (1960's).

The various maps do help to pinpoint the location - thanks for sending those. The map suggested by 'Madgolfer' had the #17 on the corner on Herbststrassee - -just wonderful.
See -- from something as simple as a old postcard - a location and a family and a little about them is being learned and they aren't forgotten, but learned about and discussed in the 21st century.

The Volunteer Fire Department in Rosenheim is a place to check to see if any Schreiner family were members as well as checking out the churches and graveyards.

Looks like from the IGI, Our Bayern Schreiner family are like our Smiths of England.

To Madgolfer - I always start research with sources like IGI and others but I wasn't finding enough to confirm whom I was looking for and did I had the right individuals. With the additional information recently learned, I can go back and recheck some other sources.

I noticed across from Herbststrassee what appears to be a cemetery - another possibly to check.

There may also be a war memorial listing those that died.

Or ask a Schreiner that lives in Rosenheim. Germans don't move around much and someone may be related that lives there still.

Herbststrasse is in the middle of a residential area. To the right hand side (Intalhalle, P5 on the map link posted by MadGlofer) is a large car park, it is also where the Herbstfest (Rosenheim’s beer festival) is held. You are correct about the graveyard, its large and has some old sections to it. I agree with an earlier post, most of the housing in this area is relatively new. I live on the outskirt of Rosenheim, I will take a look down this street to see what number 17 looks like.

Take a picture if you find anything and drop by the graveyards too. Drop by the fire department and tell them that you are looking for Schreiner family members that may have volunteered way back when. They love to talk about members from the past and there is likely to be yearly photos in the hallways or memorial room listing all their names.

Ok so I took a detour on my way home tonight, dark and no camera with me so no picture. Number 17 is a large house, it is defiantly older than the others in the area, but my guess would be no older than 30/40's, I will ask a few of the locals see what they think. As for the graveyard, no joy there in the dark, its walled and they lock the gates so you cannot get in, I will maybe take a look on Saturday if I am in town.

That is interesting -- that the one house searching for is #17 - might be the original house from the 1930s-1940s.
I have still only run into dead ends on finding any descendants of the Schreiner family from this area.
Purely guessing --- some family members may have died during WW II, others may have moved to other areas of Germany or other countries.
It is still a mystery.

I've only picked this up a few months later... sorry!! I live in Rosenheim and know a 'Schreiner' currently living in Kolbermoor. His entire family is from this region. Are you still interested?If so let me know and I can ask him for you
