A Monday midnight opening to kick off the sale of the blockbuster computer game "World of Warcraft" led to three people being injured when the glass door of a MediaMarkt shattered under the pressure of the 600 to 800 customers waiting outside.
When two of the four entrance doors were opened the crowd surged forwards, causing one of the doors to shatter. Two people were treated on the spot, one was taken to a hospital for treatment and then released. The stampede could finally be contained when police announced that 1,700 copies of the game were available.
In Bochum bottles were broken in the crowd but no one was injured. The situation de-escalated when the store announced that only pre-paid games were being given out that night. (Kölner Stadtanzeiger)
