Hello! New member here with a question.
I'm arriving in Berlin at 10.15 on Sunday and coming to an apartment in Prenzlauer Berg (Winsstrasse). It will have TV but not satellite. I'm a big NFL fan and want to be able to watch the game. Is there a bar or club within easy reach that would show the game?
Any advice much appreciated.

G'day mike! I believe that The Old Emerald Isle (Erkelenzdamm 49, Kreuzberg) is the only pub in berlin showing the NFL playoffs. I heard rumours about an american sports bar in potsdammer platz and you could try the Oscar Wilde, but everybody the other night at the OEI seemed to think it was "the only game in town".
Great pub though, the food looked great, they had lots of big TVs and friendly staff.

Thanks, Tom -- and g'day to you (are you an Aussie? if so, congratulations on the ... well, you know). Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not too sure how easy it would be to get a cab to Kreuzberg and back at that time. Would it be VERY expensive? It's hard to believe that there's not one of all those bars in Prenzlauer Berg that wants American money ...

Sounds like it will be on ARD:
http://sport.ard.de/sp/weitere/news200701/...tball_ard.jhtml. Easier after a long day's travel -- I'll be in Berlin for six months, so perhaps I'll make a meet-up later. Thanks.

Note that only the end of Bears-Saints game will be shown live, according to that: "Nach den Höhepunkten der Partie wird live in die Schlussminuten geschaltet" = "After the highlights of the match, the final minutes will be shown live." But the Colts-Pats game will be live in its entirety.
BTW, you don't need to take a taxi; you can reach the pub pretty easily from Prenzlberg by public transport: walk or take a tram to Alexanderplatz, and then take the U8 to Kotbusser Tor, and the pub is a few minutes' walk from there. You can even enter your address on
http://www.s-bahn-berlin.de/fahrplanauskun...outenplaner.htm and get walking maps.
I want to come out for the Saints game, but I'll have to see how I'm doing with the crutches by then.

True, but if you stay til the end of the second game, since the U-bahn and S-bahn shut at night on Sundays through Thursdays, you'd have to figure out a way home. Certain buses and trams keep running; or you could share a taxi back -- I'd be willing to do that, and I'm guessing there'll be a couple other folks from P'berg interested as well.

yo there is also Salamas near frankfurter Tor that shows NFL games on NASN. I have been there a bunch of times. They have a room in the back you can go to with a projection screen. Its a dive bar but if you want to watch the games its another option. I dont know the exact address but its right by Frankfurter Tor check some of the other threads for it.

Fair enough. Although for me the N8 is actually more convenient than the U8 because it stops close to my apartment.

yeah, Old Emerald Isle (OEI) sounds more inviting than the 'Salami' [Salama(?)] bar... been to the OEI tons'a times... good food, friendly staff (bunch'a leprachauns from the green Isle *G*) and no shortage of screens showin' the game...
kinda cool to hear channel 1 (ARD) is showin' some NFL... but watchin' it at home alone is no fun...
and gettin' back home via one of the 'night buses' is not too tough (or by taxi a'course)
lookin' forward to seein' you fellers who viewed last weeks' massacre (of the Seahawks and the Chargers... damn damn damn... )
later,

Thanks all. Sunday is going to be a long day and so watching home alone may be a rational option if Monday isn't going to be a complete waste. (As a UK-based football fan, I did a lot of watching alone.) But the Superbowl is another matter!

I'm planning to make it down for the Saints game. (Who dat?) May not stay until the end of the AFC championship, just long enough to explain to everyone why the Colts are to be reviled. (Moving is one thing--I'm still a Rams fan, after all--but sneaking out of town in the middle of the night is another story entirely.)

Hey, I was yelling at him to shut the fuck up and get in the damn endzone. At least he did, unlike certain Leon Letts I could name.
Nice to meet everybody, and see most of you in a couple of weeks for the big game. And BTW, if you think the Sky commentators are annoying during the commercial, consider having to listen to the ARD yokels for the whole game (as I'm doing at the moment with Pats-Colts. Hasn't anybody in this country heard of Zweikanal?

Unless someone's got a better idea, Old Emerald Isle worked well last night. (Did someone check that they'll stay open late Super Sunday?)
