I do love a bit of streaming media me. Orb software, avaiable for FREE at orb.com is a great way to do it. I tried orb before, with mixed results, but the new version is simply brilliant. You run a bit of software on your home PC, and then you can access any of your films, music, photos and TV (if you a TV card) from any wifi connection. Sure, your upload speed is the problem here for quality, but even on a 128 upstream, I succesfully logged into Orb from the Arc last week, and the quality of the episode of South Park that I chose was fine on my PDA. Sure, Southpark is a cartoon, so still looks pretty fine at a lower bitrate, but still, the quality was fine to watch, and didn't break up and keep buffering atall.
You can also access your webcam, so I logged in to spy on my bird, in the hope that she was enjoying some "alone time" in the lounge. Sadly, all I saw was my dog licking his own testicles, but hey, the technology worked.

If you are on the same network as your "home PC", then some directstream function means that you'll stream at much better bitrates, which is great for me to watch Battlestar Galatica on a handheld device whilst I am sitting on the toilet having a cold beer. Wicked for streaming music about the house too, for those times when you are sitting on the toilet playing the guitar, with a cold beer, and need some tunes to jam to. Yes, of course, you can also stream pornographic material to the shower for the mornings when you have a touch of Gentlemen's tension down below. Just pop your pda or laptop into a see-through plastic bag to protect if from splashes...from the shower I mean.

The biggest thing that impresses me though, is the fact that it has streamed every data format and codec that I've tried. I own several handheld media wotsits, and have spent hours of my life encoding and re-encoding video files to different formats. With this orb stuff, it just sorts it out on the fly, and my windowsmobile powered device loves it.

Must give this version a run. Have you tried out the TV functionality? I could never get this to work before.

I was planning to whack on old TV card into my PC, but I haven't found it yet.
