Whether she can work or not is clearly written on her residence permit. Check that.
With us, my wife's visa clearly said that she cannot work (Erwerbstätigkeit nicht gestatte). But upon entering Germany and getting the residence permit, the residence permit clearly says that she can work! (Die Ausübung einer Beschäftigung kann nur auf Antrag durch die Ausländerbehörde erlaubt werden), provided that she informs them. Strange laws!!!
They handed over a form to her which she has to fill in and give it to them after she finds work. The form is "Benötigte Angaben zur Beantragung einer Arbeitserlaubnis"

Hi,
I am a resident from India. I have applied for dependent visa to Germany from Chennai, India to travel with my wife who has already got a workpermit visa to work in Stuttgart, Germany.
I had submitted my documents for dependent visa processing with chennai german consulate and i was expecting my visa approval by last week. But today i came to know there was a problem in approving my marriage certificate. (May be because it was in English and not in German. But i am not sure thats the reason). This info i got from my company people in Germany who spoke to visa authorities in Germany.
Now i am asked to talk to chennai consulate about this. Please mail me if you have any idea on how can we proceed in such a situation!
Do we have to arrange for modified/required documents or is it a re-apply scenario? Please send in your views which will really help me!
Thanks in advance.

Use the search option on the top right hand corner. These issues have been talked about in this same forum.
Also let us know about the details of your application and marriage. Was there a marriage ceremony? Were there enough guests? Are there photos of the ceremony to prove the marriage (marriage certificate does not stand as a proof of marriange any more!!! - for the German Consulate), did u sign up for the so called 'marriage investigation'? If not, you will have to do it. Visit the consulate with your marriage photographs. If that is not enough to convince them, then pay an additional amount (may be about 10K INR for Chennai) for the marriage investigation. Let the detectives verify your marriage and wait until then. If the marriage is proved, then there should not be any problem for the dependent visa.
QUOTE (rathisoft @ Apr 17 2007, 5:54 pm)

May be because it was in English and not in German. But i am not sure thats the reason
- No. I don't think that you need to translate the marriage certificate. Mine was a similar situation. They did not ask for translation, but for an investigation.
All the best,
Bandu.

Dear Bandu;
Thanks a lot for your information. It was indeed useful to me.
Please find the answers for your queries:
Q. Was there a marriage ceremony? Were there enough guests? Are there photos of the ceremony to prove the marriage (marriage certificate does not stand as a proof of marriange any more!!! - for the German Consulate)
Ans: Yes there was a marriage ceremony attended by many guests. I do have enough photos to prove it.
Q. Did u sign up for the so called 'marriage investigation'?
Ans: No. I haven't signed anything like that. I don't mind paying extra but I am just concerned about the time duration. Could you please tell me how long this investigation process will take?
And also please let me know if you have any other information related to this. It would be really helpful to me.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Mine is a looong story... I had applied for my dependent visa in July 2006 from the Chennai consulate. My husband's visa came in Oct 2006. Mine didnt... they told us that verification is going on, it will take another 2 months. In Feb 2007, my husband in Germany, came to know that the verification request letter from the foreigner's office was sent to Chennai in Aug 2006 where it went missing and so my verification has not been done at all!!! It was a dead end as the foreigner's office refused to resend the letter and 7 months had already gone by. Finally, we had to withdraw the application and reapplied in July 2007.. Now I am still waiting for my verification to start...
Life gets tough when it comes to family visas... My suggestion is keep an eye out for the verification requests they send to the consulate and the subsequent steps to avoid rude shocks...
Thanks

hi,
thats true.. even my husband faced the same prob. his was an pre-approved visa and in the chennai consulate they have lost the approval letter. again luckily the employees forced them and made them send the approval letter again. now im waiting for my visa and its been almost 10weeks since i have applied. suddenly this september they told me that i have to prove my german language thru a certification. luckily i am doing it for the last 1month. so ill finish it by next week and submit it. i am keeping my fingers crossed. i dont what they are going to ask again?. its like a nightmare!!!...

Its rather disillusioning and disgusting, the way they treat the familyapplying for the visa... I am cursing the day that we decided to move to Germany and my husband took up the job offer.
Does anyone here have any positive experiences to share about the family visa for Germany?

I applied for Spouse reunion visa on 25th June 2007. I got a letter from the consulate about couple of weeks later asking for marriage certificate/photos/DD for Rs.8000 for doing verification which we sent immediately. For the past two weeks, we've been enquiring the Chennai consulate on the status of my visa and everytime the reply we get is "Verification done, Pending approval from Germany". My husband contacted the Foreign office in Germany last week and he was told that they didnt get the documents from Chennai. I'm wondering if some documents are lost, and is it possible such a thing could happen? When we contacted the Chennai consulate, they simply ask us to wait and added I couldnt ask too many questions (when I hardly asked them a couple of questions!).
Now that I'm seeing messages in this forum and others on German language requirement, I'm planning to enrol into a 6-week course at the Goethe Institute, though I havent got any letter yet asking for this.
Anybody got any suggestions on how I should go about enquiring, and if I should enrol into a language class?
This is getting endless!

Hi Sims,
I read your situation. I believe your husband has sent necessary documents (the apartment contract stating it can accommodate a family, etc). But I have a worry for you. Why did you pay Rs.8000 for your visa?. Did you get a proper receipt for it. I came along with my husband with a dependent visa.We attended a language course in the Goethe Institute. While you submitted the application, I hope you have mentioned clearly that you wanted to join with your husband right? I feel things what u have done are quite correct and I also agree that people in the consulate dont easily give you information. I hope you applied through the VFS agency in Chennai. Please ask them because its too late that u have not got ur visa yet. As soon as your papers reached Germany, your husband will be enquired and things will be confirmed, after which you will get your visa.
With regard to the language course, Goethe Institute is a good choice and they have a well planned teaching method. I enjoyed learning German when I studied there for two months. Anymore you need to know, post me.
Good Luck

That Rs 8000 is for the marriage verification. The Kolkata consulate where i applied has told me that they'll ask for the verification cost once the marriage verification request letter comes from the foreigner's registration office. My husband had to give in writing that we will bear the verification cost.
I guess it has become a standard ploy for delaying the visa issuing by saying that the papers have not come... In my case, they are saying again that they have sent my verification request to the consulate in July itself and the kolkata consulate told me today that they have not recd any such letter so the verification cannot be started!!! I have been sitting for my visa since
July 2006 I hope it is not a repeat of lost documents again.

FYI, those still struggling with the newly implimented German language certification rule for visa approval. Do refer to the flyer with information about the language certification rule regarding the exceptions to the German language requirement
http://www.integration-in-deutschland.de/c...flyer-en-de.pdfThe third point in this flyer states that the exemption holds if "You have a university degree or corresponding qualification, OR exceptionally in your case, there is a recognisably lesser integration requirement for other reasons."
Apparently this is a printing mistake (instead of 'OR' it had to be 'AND' in the above point) but it worked well for me as i finally managed to land in Nuremberg after numerous rounds to the embassy in Delhi.

Hello All,
Currently I am in Frankfurt eagerly awaiting to get Spouse Reunion visa for my wife. We had applied in Chennai in September 2007..we got a letter for verification after which we submitted marriage certificate, birth certificate, wedding photographs and Rs.8000/- as verification charges. The Chennai consulate asked us to wait for 8 weeks. So we waited and my wife called them on December to ask for the status. At that time, we got to know that verification was done and that her documents would be forwarded to Frankfurt..this was a week before X-mas.
After the X-mas and new years break, I contacted the Alien Office here in Frankfurt, and they informed me that my wife's documents have not yet arrived. I again checked yesterday...same situation. So I am also wondering if documents can get lost? As qouted below, I am facing exactly the same situation...
could anyone help me as to how I can track the documents??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Tamang

Hi Folks ,
I just wanted to drop a note for all of you guys whose wives have applied for a dependent visa .
Mathew is the name and I am Indian . My wife applied for a dependent visa in Chennai and she got her visa approved in 6 and a half weeks . I was not even contacted in Berlin ,Germany where I live and there was no request for marriage verification either. This surprised us because I met many Indians who said it took them 6-7 months or so and they were told that their marriage needed to be verified.
I am not a scientist but I have an MBA ( done in Germany ) and an engineering degree. My wife did her MBA too but in India and works for Goldman Sachs . This post is just to tell you guys that it is not always true that a dependent visa takes a lot of time. A lot of people were very negative about it . I think it has to do with your profile too and the profile of your wife . It also has to do with your track record in Germany . I did my MBA in Hannover for a year and have been working in Berlin for a year. We got married in Bangalore in a regular government office. If you look at their certificates, you would probably think it is fake .
Good luck to you all who are waiting for dependent visas
Mathew

Have you contacted the German consulates in Delhi or Chennai for clarification?
