It was a very long and hard and cold winter last year - I'm definitely enjoying the Tshirt weather we're having...

all the predictions are that 2007 will be the hottest year on record. The German press is saying that if winter does not come then we'll be overrun with insects by spring and summer. I'm not sure whether upsetting ecosystems like this with freaky unpredictable weather is necessarily a good thing.

He's a fuckwit though. I'm rather enjoying the nice weather.

@Lassie, I assume your boss is gonna bring the 30cm of snow from his deep freezer?

Aye my two trees look like this already! Bulbs are starting.
But I am worried that we may get a cold snap in Feb and knacker everything.

This does worry me although I am enjoying it right now. Less snow in Pac NW means more wildfires in summer and last year was an extremly horrible year.

Quite. I've decided to trade my piddling 1.8 litre turbo in for a 5 litre V10 diesel off-roader. I'm looking forward to 30C on Christmas day next year. Apologies in advance to anybody who skis, but it's a shit sport anyway.

Yes I've seen a few trees beginning to sprout around the place.
I really hope it snows. I get that regulars and old folk may get sick of cold weather quickly but the grey dark temperate weather is the standard winter climate in the U.K so it would've been nice to have something a little different this year

Yeah, they are unreal with the sensationalist reports! They even had one during the week about the dangers of malaria arriving here as the mosquitoes are now surviving the winter!

So, I was outside yesterday checking for damage from the storm (lots of branches, etc to pick up) and I noticed all the flowering bushes in the yard were already budding...poor things. What happens to their buds when the temps drop off again?

There were two wasps in our house here in Holzkirchen Saturday. Being the eco friendly person that II am...I squashed the buggers. Mind you I was thinking of putting their squished bits on the compost.
btw following the advice of Gardeners World, I planted thousands of bulbs last autumn which are starting to appear - I bought loads of packs of them in Aldi - will they get hammered by thew snow?

Any signs of springs, like flowers and wasps, are going to be gone by the end of the week. First snow, and then super cold temperatures on Friday..

I don't think so. They are very fleshy and hardy and just poke right back through the snow when it thaws. Storing their nourishment as they do the slightest bit of warmth should get them going again, no waiting for the surrounding earth to thaw, either. I have tons of little shoots in my front garden patch where I was intending to grow herbs; I don't really want to dig them up
