So here I am sitting in 4th floor flat, listening to "Songs in the key of life", windows open looking at faint impressions of clouds outside. I had two wonderful women flirt with me on the way home which adds to this moment. Is it is nirvana ? Is it happiness? Is it beauty? I do not know but I am feeling good. So what is beauty? Is it the "Birth of Venus "? A child hugging you when you come home? The way the light falls on girl? Is it sitting on Oswald Beach West listening to the Pacific Ocean crashing, while the sun warms your face? So what is beauty to you? Let your opinions roll...its an open forum.

Have you been smoking the funny stuff again?

I think one of the most beautiful things in the world is when my kid wakes up in a good mood, with a smile on her face and says, "Good morning, Mama."

I always wondered about the unit of beauty. And someone told me it's measured in milli hallon, but I was not yet able to confirm this.

Fashions in female beauty come and go, but the desirability of a slim waist remains a constant, a study suggests...Discernible waists...are the one feature of the female form that has always been in demand, according to academics who analysed references to beauty in literature.

I think the thing/person looks beautiful if it matches/achieves one or more of your morals/ideals/desires. For sure your morals can contradict with your desires...then you got mixed feelings.
Even the ugliest, fattest, and the most crippled woman in the world will look beautiful to you if she is your beloved mother/sister...or even if it was your love one day for some reason. and the most beautiful woman in the world shall look shitty and ugly to you if you have a bad history with her.
A vacation in a carribean island will not produce much fun, and you will not see any beauty around if you are with the wrong person, or you know you have left someone in need for you behind!
I think images/shapes quickly attracts us as the easiest to notice form of beauty, however, it is the shallowest to affect us later in time.

A spring sunset reflected off clouds in colors without names behind willow trees in their veil of greenish-yellow new buds.
The ocean off Cancun: Ivory sand, blue sky, tall white clouds, turqouise water.
The same family smile on the faces of my mother, my aunts and my children at a big reunion.
The view from the descent at Irschenberg heading south towards the Alps.
The view from the top of Half-Dome at Yosemite.
Hmmm, sounds like nature is beauty.

Well its starting to storm here and it reminds me of growing up (one of the few good memories). In the northern part of Texas (plains) in spring after a harsh thunderstorm comes one of the most wonderful smells. Its fresh and reminds one one what purity is. I use to think as a kid ( catholic kid) that it was gods way of cleaning the filth from the earth.

When I was walking to work this morning, it was dawn and as I looked straight ahead I saw the pink orangeish sunrise, I knew there was going to be a storm tonight. I love seeing the different colors in the sky, that's beauty. When I was a little girl my grandmother used to wake me up at early hours, help me dress, serve me breakfast and warm milk. We would go out to the balcony together and watch the sunrise and its reflection onto the sea. The salty smell of the sea, that's another beauty. The sight of the sea another beauty.
It's raining heavily over here too and I am sure it's going to smell really fresh tomorrow morning, I agree with you Perdido the smell of the trees and grass after a storm is a beautiful smell.
I just did my evening shopping and I almost knocked over numerous water bottles and this really handsome guy appeared from nowhere and caught them in mid air. I said "oops", he smiled and said "oops". I think having funny and entertaining moments in life are beauty too.

Just an observation about life in general, but I've noticed over the years, as you do, that girls with a gap between their front teeth have a rather beautiful habit of being the most perverted. I've not done any scientific studies on the matter. But, I'm prepared to accept copious quantities of funding and volunteers to further the process of science and human understanding. That's just the kind of generous guy I am.
