Don't be too hard on yourself. It was nice from you to organise the event. Get well soon!

So so sorry Michi.

I am unhappy because Haggis Junior is flunking chemistry and math and has failed her trial term at school. Damn. Oh, and I am furious as well.

After what seemed like a promising start to the new year I have just realised that my life is fucked up and going nowhere fast.

Because what I thought was just another bloody cold has now turned into a raging fever, agonising joint pains and a near-inability to put one foot in front of the other. And I have deadlines. And customers keep calling. And there's so much I should be doing but I just can't. I hate being on my own when I feel this ill. sad.gif

As you seem to be not the only one on TT suffering from this, I reckon I've caught from here. My sympathies, I've spent the last 4 days flat on my back and not in a good way! sad.gif

Oh shit. I woke up with a sore throat, and knowing what all of you are going through, I am not looking forward to this.

eat some fresh garlic, its good for when you have colds/flu. Hope you feel better soon guys.

Definitely seems to be going round at the moment. Mine was getting much better until I stupidly spent the day at a customer's offices yesterday - should have cancelled, really paying for it now. Haven't felt this ill for years! And no, that doesn't make me feel lucky and I don't want to count my blessings. I want to moan. dry.gif

Edit: DDBug, some TTers have had a much milder version and thrown it off already though, so you might be ok. At least you haven't been hanging out with me!

What a surprise! The work I had stored in a PC at KIZ is all gone, the PC, decided to have a brain explosion and took 2.5 months of work I had stored with it. I will now choose a wall and proceed to beat myself senseless! Fecking maschine. that wall over there would look nice with some red splatters on it! dry.gif

Didn't get the flat I really really really really wanted. But hey, the landlady was oh so sorry, she picked someone else - oh happy days! Flat hunting in Munich here we come... sad.gif

Because I slipped on a pool of cat-puke this morning and ended up banging my arm on the stairs and my right buttock on the floor. Now I can hardly sit, stand or lie comfortably and look like I've been beaten up.
But I learned from this incident just how fast a person can think. In just five seconds the following thoughts ran through my head:

- Damn, I am falling down
- Where is that puddle from? Did a cat pee - no, no smell. Did the steam cleaner leak -no, it's downstairs.
- Shit, I am falling towards the stairs. Do NOT smash your head against the steps!
- These slippers are crap on wet wooden floors
- That landing could have been worse

Then I lay there stunned for a few seconds before starting to swear at the cats who had gathered around to see the fun. By the way, I am proud that I managed to swerve far enough to the right to avoid the steps. Well, almost.

I am rather new in this forum, and to TT. I have, however, lived in Germany now for going on 5 months. I am not very happy living here. I know now the reason why I am here now though, other than meeting the love of my life and then marrying him! The reason is that I needed to appreciate my own country more. And now I do. There are so many things I miss...so much I can't get here. And not only that, there's SO many bureaucracies that are "full of shit" here. So much incompetency, so much rigid structure...it seems to me that many in authority in this country don't care about their citizens at all.
I find the weather depressing, and many backwards thinking people. The cost of living is astronomical. The food that you can buy in grocery stores is substandard. I guess I'm still trying to adjust, and the culture shock has not been easy, in fact; horrible.
Ok. I'm still trying to find something good about here other than my husband...it's not easy. Right now I can't seem to find anything. The only thing I really have to look forward to is leaving here in 2009. my husband and I made the decision to move back to the USA. HE has never been to the USA; but at least I know we can afford to "make ends meet" there. It just isn't very possible here. Never have much money to do anything other than survive. Well, sorry to be a downer. Maybe I'll be better on another day...

Because they are offering some really interesting sounding classes next semester in Heidelberg, and where am I? In f***ing Barcelona! Some prof is teaching a seminar on Kurt Vonnegut. I would love to take that! Argh! Also another class where you read an Auster novel. Argh again! Why do they teach all the good authors now? The winter schedule better be good as well! sad.gif

At some point. tongue.gif I think in about two years, May 2010. Finally.
sharpe
Is this typical in Germany? I was 22 when i graduated from university
Mariposa
Well, I switched one of my majors after a year, studied two years abroad (well, I will have by the time I graduate) and what I am getting is a graduate degree, not an undergrad degree, so yeah. I am not the fastest student, there are some who are done sooner, but not all that unusual either. I think the Regelstudienzeit for my majors is 9 or 10 semesters (Fachsemester). I will be done after 10 in one and 12 in the other (though I am already done with one, I just need to finish the other one now).

But now that they have changed the university system, you graduate with a BA/Sc after three years, so at 22 on average. And with the G8, the graduating age will be 21. (Add a year for those who started school at 7, not 6.)
Pas
My youngest just discovered gravity and now has a night in the hospital as he landed on his head.

He seemed more in shock than genuinely injured but obviously I'm still somewhat worried.

I graduated with a BSc. at 21 (which was normal - no great deal) - and that was in 1973! Different country...

21 Here too, plus further 2 years mechanical instead of aeronautical but i have to say that my most important one i got was the Aeronautical Diploma at 19.

Pushing my EC card into maschine, this morning, I was surprised to read "Karte ungültig" Oh well i thought and tried again! no luck! Now lets be honest my bank balance is always at a low-ebb, so I thought this is a cunning plan to stop me overdrawing too much on it! So into bank, told nice lady my problem! She runs it through her PC thingy and says "Es ist kaput" and cut the fucking thing in half saying to me, who´s jaw was banging off the floor, "You´ll get a new one next week!" ohmy.gif
Now my problem is, I now have to go to the counter every time I need cash, not easy at 03:00 in the morning! And I have visions of a repeat of my Nov 2006, Venice debacle where, armed with new card which I had never used, I promptly entered the wrong number 3 times.
Now Venice is a lovely city, but I wanted to get back to Munich after spending 2 weeks repairing a yacht on my own. 15 hours later, Western Union finally paid up the money wired to me. I had to pay double the train fare for a sleeper and arrived in Münich in a very pissed off mood and very hungry as I hadn´t eaten for over 24 hours. mad.gif Apart from that I´m pretty happy to be going skiing on Friday where I am competing against someone who very unwisely challenged me to a race! Dinner is on the loser by the way! smile.gif

I'm friggin babysitting this evening and overnight a very bratty, whiney, and precocious 6 year old and her 3 year old sister. They both left their listening ears at home. I had to spank their butts to let them it's my house and I'm in charge. Now they both know and understand the bed is not a trampoline and the bathtub is not a swimming pool.

I finally got their little arses to go to sleep! Then I have to get up and cook breakfast at 0630 as the 6 year old is a insulin dependent diabetic and I have to give her insulin and breakfast at 0700. No sleeping in for me tomorrow and I definitely don't feel up to going to the playground to run around with them at 0830 sad.gif .

Now I fully realize why I don't have my own children as this is friggin hard work to take care of children.

Because my eight month old still hasn't gone to bed, every time I lay her down, she cries again and I'm soooooooooo tired!

Now I do like a good spanking myself. I find a little spank adds a little spice to ones love life.

However
I'm not sure if it's a good idea to punish children with a spank. I would be extremely careful of spanking someone else's kids. I'm not totally sure but I think spanking children is illegal in Germany.
