Anyone of you ever been on a trip to Norway of lived up North to see the Northern lights? Reason I am asking is that I wanna go with my daughter there for a weekend. Not this one but next one to see it. Still sorting out where to go. So far goals are set to Tromso but any tips or hints are welcome.

Cheers.

I have seen the Northern Lights in Aberdeen and in Ullapool is Scotland and also in Bergen and Trondheim in Norway. You need to have the right weather system for it though - it does not come predictably.

Went to Lapland with the kids on one of those Santa searching hols. Northern lights were the highlight of the whole event. You try to describe them afterwards to people and realise that no words can do justice to what you've seen. Sensational.

you can go to northern Canada too, heck even in the Prairies we see the Northern Lights both in Summer and Winter.

Yea, go to Finland!

You can see them anywhere up north, if you decide to go to Finland, you should definitely go north of the polar circle. Rovaniemi is a big city up there, worth seeing, and you could combine your trip with santa claus-park and all that... But you have to go in the winter, you won't see them otherwise.

Good luck!

EDIT: I just realised you're going in two weeks? This winter is horrible, don't go, all the fun of seeing Scandinavia in the winter just vanished when the snow melted. Sorry! Normally winter is absolutely beautiful. If you go anyway, have fun!

For those of you interested. Tromso in Norway is the place I am gonna check out. It will be a bit of a trip but hopefully it will be one of the things my daughter will remember long time from now.

Best site i found so far is this one. http://www.destinasjontromso.no/ and this one as well. http://www.sec.noaa.gov/

Friday night, flying there. Saturday in the afternoon a dogsled/snowmobiling thingy and hopefully some Northern Lights.
Sunday sleep in and travel back. I wish i had more time but not right now.

Planning to go to Helsinki in early November this year. So is it worth doing, weather wise?
